990 Injection pump removal

I think I know the answer but just want a sanity check....
I'm getting ready to pull my 990 injector pump for a reseal. From what I've read in the manual I don't need to worry about lining up any engine gears....with the way the pump is designed as long as I install the pump back in the gear correctly and line up the external fine tuning mark the timing will be good....correct? I'm not disassembling the weight basket, removing the big circlip or messing with the rollers. Just resealing.

Yes, that one is similar to some MF/Perkins and Ford engines, no flywheel timing needed to remove/replace the CAV DPA injection pump. BUT you are asking for trouble if the pump is not COMPLETELY torn down to replace ALL the seals it has at the drive end too.

Thank you for the feedback. I will take it down further if I need to. There are some great videos out there showing the process. I rebuilt a similar pump several years ago successfully so I’m not really intimidated…just trying to minimize things that can go wrong! I figured it’s better to ask questions now than when I’m in the thick of it.
