I had a JD 3038 for a while. Good tractor, but I didn't like the tier 4 exhaust system. Don't remember the year. Ron MNHe wants a compact Utility tractor. He is looking at a 2026 John Deere model 3038 with a bucket with about 800 hours. It has a 37 HP Yanmar diesel engine.
Just wondering if anyone has had any experince with these.
Thanks for any reply.
I have an commercial 2011 JD 1435 lawn mower with a Yanmar engine. I have 989 hrs on it now, not a lick of problems with the engine or mower. He wants a compact Utility tractor. He is looking at a 2015 John Deere model 3038 with a bucket with about 800 hours. It has a 37 HP Yanmar diesel engine.

No, you didn't put the wrong year. The responder read 2026 when you wrote 2015. All is well.Sorry I put the wrong year. The tractor is a 2015.
On the tranny, good point. If you are going to do around the place work, get a hydro. If your main work will be long times in the field plowing get a gear shift.....with the size you mention, gonna bet it's for housekeeping......if it isn't a hydro, you will be doing a lot of clutching and shifting that's unnecessary (BTDT) and you will get tired of it. I am an old school guy and in 2016 bought a 25 hp with FEL and gear shift....did have a cramped operator compartment. 2021, I traded it in on a hydro for the reason I posted above.....and the tractor had some nice amenities the original didn't have. Had I given it more thought I would have bought a hydro back in 2016 and saved the 2021 expense......but "after the fact" I really like the amenities that weren't supplied with the 2016 besides the hydro thing.....so that complicates the situation....different manufacturers too. I love my new one. It just keeps getting in the way for helping me with my chores of different types. Don't know what I did without it.I have a JD 4410 (about same size, ten years older) with about the same number of hours. I think it is great!
(Mine is still a No Def model) The Yanmar engine is a scrappy little diesel. A question to consider; Is the transmission the best type for the intended use?
That’s incorrect. Take a peak at the bottom right corner of the original post. The post was edited to 2015 when originally it stated 2026.No, you didn't put the wrong year. The responder read 2026 when you wrote 2015. All is well.
Wes, you have to look for “edit notation at the bottom of replies” he apparently edited the year. No, you didn't put the wrong year. The responder read 2026 when you wrote 2015. All is well.
I'm not that dyslexic. You were late to the show. As stated above it was edited after my post. Thank you for pointing out how dumb you were hoping I was.No, you didn't put the wrong year. The responder read 2026 when you wrote 2015. All is well.
You have a few minutes right after you make a post that an edit can be made and the note that the post was edited will not appear. You apparently made your edit within that window as it does not have the note of it being edited. Or are you referring to editing your first post?I'm not that dyslexic. You were late to the show. I edited my post as well.

Correct I edited my first post(#3 this morning) as it is not relevant anymore.
Look at Post # 4. greenmech quoted the original post and it shows the 2026 year for the tractor. Using the Reply button in the thread one is replying to, and typing one's reply in the same box, in the clear area, below the quote, which is shaded, is a good idea. Type in the same box, not the one at the bottom of the page which is used, if you don't want to reply to or quote a certain post. Had #7 poster read the quote in the #4 post he wouldn't have gotten lippy with me and in turn would have had no reason to come back at him.
I would just warn you that in the case of all compact and sub-compact tractors often folks use them as if they were a bulldozer. Digging a lot of virgin earth with one can stress the front 4WD axle to the point of failure. If you want to move a lot of virgin soil break it up with a rear mounted chisel or ripper implement or a mold board plow. Scooping up dislodged soil is much easier on such a machine. He wants a compact Utility tractor. He is looking at a 2015 John Deere model 3038 with a bucket with about 800 hours. It’s not frustration. I wasn’t the one that didn’t read everything in a very small thread. I added a value remark based on what was originally posted. Op apologized and corrected and @WESnIL made only a smart ..comment but nothing related to current topic at hand. Yes I took the time to correct my response that was no longer relevant and address the person that commented about my post.I messed this up this is a response to deere4040’s reply 15.
I understand your frustration, but being a member on here since 2020 I would hope you realize there are a lot of high speed skimmers, as well as folks that only read the opening thread and then reply disregarding what others have already replied, some that don’t always remember or are not aware of all the nuances of the forum software (like the edit feature) and those that simply think the way they view these forums is the way everyone should do it and I am sure there are more. I have heard it said here, to get the members at large here to utilize these forums properly would be the equivalent of “herding cats“!
