430 jd crawler

Are you sure you don't have a 440 crawler? Some of those had 2-53 GM diesels. If you look at the side of the engine,on the blower it will have GM cast into the part facing you. Pictures would go a long ways toward helping you.

Just got this 1960 JD 430 crawler. Not sure where the heck the diesel goes in. Found a tank with threaded cap ahead of the clutch but want to be sure before pouring a few gallons of diesel in.

give it a sniff test, or stick a clean stick in the tank. Stan

Stop! I do not know of any John Deere crawler that gets diesel put in it near the clutch. There was an option a wet clutch type reverser that had a barrel bung plug (0n both the left and right sides) that provided access to the two reverser clutch adjustments. And could be used to add fluid when needed.

As crawlercollector said there was no 430 diesel crawler. The 440 ICD was the first crawler model factory equipped with a diesel. It was a two-cylinder GM 2-53. The tank fill point is through the hood as posted.

If you have a 430 with a diesel, we need some pictures as it would seem someone transplanted a diesel in it and who knows where they put a fuel tank.

Which do you have?
