Ford 4600 tractor with it

I have a guy at work that had a Ford 4600 he is wanting to sell me . The tractor fires right up , all hydraulics work the only issue is the steering box went out . He told he would let me have it for 2500.00 is it worth it ?

Ok, I see. I read too fast. I thought he was saying the guy told him it would cost $2500 to fix. I need to read slower.

Ya, I think you'll be OK. Rebuilt steering boxes are available. Do a search and see if you can find a price.

Pa bought 3 things new in his farming career. A JD 350 PTO 3pt rake, an IH 540 spreader, and the ‘78 4600D w/ a Ford/ Schwartz loader. It was a simple and good machine. It stayed on the place until Ma moved off 20 years later. Being the only loader during that time we put a clutch in it around 17 years. A farmer in the neighborhood bought it on auction and ran it another 20+ years before he traded it off and I lost track of it.

I would be tickled to find a 4600 w/FEL at that price.

I was shocked at the price I just couldn’t remember what goes I had read about that parts for them where pretty much obsolete. But is supposed to be getting it loaded on the trailer and brought to my place tonight .
