Restoring G

Hello all, new member but have been reading a lot. My grandfather @RedGreenGuy and I are restoring my late father's 47 G in his memory and we're about finished tearing down as far as we think we want to go. I come home for a few days from across country every couple of months to work on it with him and was looking for any advice and recommendations. So far we've done or are about to do the following:
  • Rebuilt generator
  • Rebuilt starter
  • Rebuilt carb
  • Clutch
  • Gauges
  • Radiator
  • Brakes
  • Distributor
  • Harness
  • Rebuilding rims and mounting with good used rubber
We've drained the fluids out. We have pulled the valve cover and valves move as they should, we will check adjustment when the time comes. We've scoped the cylinders and they look good.as far as we can tell. Nothing seems stuck. We're getting the top of the main tank fixed, aux tank is good. We'll line them both. We've sourced good sheet metal.

Is there anything that we should be looking for or watching it for? Any and all advice is welcome. Also our new favorite tool is those handheld induction heaters!

Nice project.
I have restored a 39 A and a 41 H.
2 cylinder tractors are great.

I stock G was made to run on distillate so it has a very low compression ratio, something like 4.5 to one. Bring that up and you can pretty much double the horsepower. I have a 49 G that the former owner overhaul in 1961 with M&W Pistons and it’ll Dino over 70 horse.

I would add, remove air intake from top to bottom and inspect for obstructions and also flush steel mesh material of crud and clean oil cup!

Is that a piston swap? I know my great grandfather and my dad had the engine apart at some point for oversize rings but I faintly remember they might've swapped the pistons out as well to increase HP. I haven't checked compression yet other than it has it.

Air cleaner has been removed completely as the intake stack was rusted out but mother nature did her job. We now have a cup that I can strain pasta with. I've called just about everyone I have found with no luck finding a replacement any ideas for a fix? Lots of pinholes and interior cup is missing material.

Lind Bros tractor and parts 812-952-3010 is one place, have others depending on where you're located.

Check the water outlet pipe for pin holes and it probably wouldn't hurt to replace it. From the picture of the engine it looks like its already missing a few chunks at the lip.
