Those look like SS it would be a shame to paint them... I think you took my Whoo Hoo !! wrong your 48 did not buy much hardware : (. That bench grinder has went up several hundred in the last 5 years. It does take on all commers and will be the last one you will buy : )...

I love my new $2 bolts! I was looking at them again this morning. I cannot lie, I love new bolts.

$48 doesn't buy much of anything anymore.

I spent more dollars at Lowes for 7/16 bolts, nuts, and washers.

What bench grinder???

I took off the starter housing, and still could not get the starter out past the ring gear.

It took a bit of work to put back together because the brushes were sprung out and would not go back over the commutator without intervention. So MacGyvered it and got it all back together.

Bare foot tractor repair is highly unorthodox and not YT approved! I see Hobo instructed you about the brush springs. I just take a sufficient tool that can hold them away from the end of the brush holder. Then push the brush in even with the inner end of the holder. Then I just let the spring rest on the flat side of the brush to hold it in position. Then when assembled orientate the brush and spring into the proper positions.

Post #78 "This Thang" (link) Once I worked my way up to a nice 10" bench grinder there was no going backwards. Maybe I should call it a rocket launcher as it has put some bolts in orbit they have never came back to earth.

I have a industrial supply house close by they sell fastener hardware at a decent price.

Thanks for that info. Yea I guess I could have learned that if I looked it up but I think I had more fun acting like Maguyver with popsicle sticks.

Funny thing is I haven't installed or used my bench grinder and have been at this house 3 years. I just bought a stand for it at HF and plan on installing it soon so that I can use it for mower blades because I bought a Wheel Horse from the 80s and the mower deck is coming soon.

But I just have a HF grinder so I'll probably be happy with that thang.
