Might want to put some penetrant on that hub and get it soaking. If bolts stick out enough, wrap some thread around them and it will hold the oil to them. Now it will be easier to paint the inside of the wheel. Have fun, always have fun.

Had to change one of those in a 730. Major surgery. The seal is all the way inside in the rear end housing, not out at the end of the axle if memory serves me right.

Did that on an A years ago. Bearing was located in the rear end housing. Had to remove the rear transmission cover and the bull gear to get the axle out to replace it.

How do you over fill a rear end on a two cylinder John Deere? Your supposed to fill the transmission up to the threads in the fill hole. Kind of hard to get more fluid in than needed unless you have the tractor jacked up so the fill hole is higher up and the tractor is no longer level.

condensation or water entering through the shifter, perhaps oil from the hydraulic system.

Try letting the tractor set for a few days then remove drain plug and drain out any water. Remove fill plug and check if its overfull. Drain any excess.

This is what I'm thinking. It does sit out in the rain and I did not check to drain any water out that morning before I started since it had been dry for several days, but it did rain about a week ago and this was the first time using it since then.

Also the crankshaft seal can leak into the first reduction cover and into the rearend. I have a 630 doing that.

I forgot they like to leak around the shifter. When my seal went bad I only noticed the oil on the tire after running down the road in 6th gear. All the bouncing kicked the oil up.

While replacing the seal, you will have axel out, be sure to clean out the axel housing, it will have oil in a cavity there, between inner seal and outer dust seal, and continue to leak out unless you clean it out also... Don't ask me how I know this.....

There's a guy in our club that has a 720 and it did that on a tractor drive last year. Next time he had it on one, I asked him how much fun it was to change the seal, He said he didn't. He said he just cleaned it off and it hadn't done it again. If you have my luck, yours won't stop. If you have his, maybe it'll heal.

Right, mine had done that once years ago while sitting in the barn, had been parked for a few years not in use, and flat tire on one side (that side that leaked). The big rust spot on the rim is where it sat and leaked on that part. I aired up the tire and got it out of the barn and is when I started restoring it (cleaning up, painting, and minor repairs). It didn't leak for the 3 years since I had it until just then. I will check the drain plug for water next time I use it, since seems it may have leaked in and caused it to be too full.

The fill hole on the tractor in the picture is in the foot platform. The oil level check plug is much lower on the left side. It could easily be over filled if the person filling was unaware of the check plug.

A bad crankshaft oil seal, right side, will leak engine oil into the first reduction cover and from there on into the transmission and out the axle seals. I replaced the crankshaft oil seal on my 630 and my axle seals quit leaking.
