Ours was a similar design, but I think it was a Craine, from Norwich NY. Unadilla silo was in Unadilla NY

My first thought as well. Certainly not worth fixing just for appearances. Maybe sentimental value?

Looks like it could become a danger. I've never seen one which has shriveled so much that the hoops are falling down.
Dad took ours down as soon as he sold the cows in the early/mid 60's. It was still in good shape. Thereafter we had a tremendous supply of 5/8 rod and heavy "staves" to use around the farm! I used some of that rod to pull a barn back together on this farm. I imagine there's still a pile of it between barns up at the homestead.

Our neighbor took down many wood silos about 65 years ago by first putting liquid wrench on the hoop fasteners and then a day or so later loosening the hoop fasteners and giving the silo a tug with his 1936 John Deere A. He then hauled it all home on a wagon and used the staves for all sorts of building projects.

Great old piece of history, but I would not want it falling on that newly sided barn!
