Finally got dine with barley combining yesterday. Yield was down a lot due to the hail damage but not as bad as it could have been.

Nice job!! Greatest Combines ever built!! No sweeter and economical power than the 318 Industrial, purring @ 2050 RPM. Yes, they could have used some heavier gauge tin in places, but how many machines 60 years old are still out there doing the job? I never had green carpets behind the 1665, but you should see the green carpets in the neighborhood here behind 1/2 million dollar combines.

I direct cut some spring barley here in NJ last month. Grain yield wasn't the best but not horrible. Was it short, though! One field I had to shave the ground like I was cutting soybeans. Straw wasn't worth the effort to try and bale (and that's the money part of barley around here. )

The dogs followed me or Bonnie who was raking all afternoon. They would follow me for a few rounds then go to the other field and follow Bonnie for a few.

Combining barley with the door open, you must still be itching. I was real happy when I got my first combine with air in 79, only on my second. Nice job always liked barley, better feed and good straw.

Neat pictures, nice combine, i ran my uncles 960 a little bit back in the day, simple machines. Been close to 30 years since we planted barley, but we fed a lot of hogs and cattle with barley, very itchy, but it would bushel out well even in dry years. I do but i don't miss harvesting it. Open cabs and hot sticky windy days, and my grain allergies, made for some long days.
