1550 Hydraulic Pump

To use the remotes we need to rev the motor to at least 1200 rpm. Fluid levels are up. I think this means the pump is weak and needs rebuild.

What is involved in rebuilding the pump?

Normal, OP manual says rev to 1000 min for hydraulic and three point use. It has a flow divider to direct the first 5 GPM to the steering. That pump is obsolete. Check the pressure first. Mine was only putting out 500 psi when I got it. Tore the pump down and found the seals were blown.

Ran some tests on the loader (no 3 point on tractor) and loading a 4x4 bale requires plus 1500 rpm to pickup the bale. Once loaded it does hold the bale up. Would the loader hold the bale up if the relief valve was partially open? I need to make a tester to check the pressure. The tractor shows lots of wear in its previous life.

We need more info- You say no 3 point, meaning it never came with one? Or there are just no arms? How is the loader plumbed? Is it using the power beyond? I don't know if applicable to your situation but here you go:

No, the loader valve holds it up. Once it's up the relief has no effect. Did you try testing with a gauge or just guess.

Hi Mike(NEOhio) I have not set up a way to test the pump values. Based on other loaders I have used this tractor has a very hard time lifting the 4x4 bale.

I guess I wasn't clear- The rockshaft is present with no arms attached?

How is the loader plumbed? Is it through the remotes? Is there an external pump?

Is this a regular row crop 1550 or some sort of utility or loader special?

I'm trying to figure out if you're dealing with a regular Oliver hydraulic unit or something else.

Hi scootergmc: Loader is plumb through remotes. Previous owner has hydraulic valve to switch bucket between remote and loader, Loader lift always available. No rockshaft no 3 point arms no control for 3 point. No anything I can see for 3 point. Plain tractor with 2 remotes only.

No, but I don't know exactly what we're dealing with. It sounds like some sort of special or utility since it doesn't have (or wasn't built?) with a 3 point, but a loader special if I remember correctly had to have a pump added somewhere and they had a belt driven power steering pump. I guess we need to know how the remotes are getting fed... external reservoir? external pump? Pictures and spec/serial numbers would help at this point.

It honestly sounds like some sort of loader special with everything external with a selector switch on the valve.

The loader specials were 1555s though, unless he made a typo. Weren't there some depth stop systems that didn't have a rock shaft?

A 1550 utility? standard? industrial?

Some pictures would sure help eliminate the guesswork. I have a factory parts book and there were several different pumps used.

That still doesn't answer our question. There were different hydraulic units used. It's hard to help without knowing what you're using. As rrlund indicated, at this point I would assume the industrial depth-stop only unit with the remote outlets under the back of the seat.

Sounds like you have an industrial with the depth stop unit. Does it look like this:

Nothing like that visible on the back. All I see is the hydraulic connectors. Looking under the seat is the arms connected to the valves. Do I have to take the panel off to see these adjusters?

Those are not adjusters. Those are just the old style aeroquip remote connectors. Most were replaced with Pioneers. The picture is representative trying to figure out what you're dealing with. You should take a look at Agco's online parts book for the 1550.
