Got at Gas Station

Anyone remember receiving tokens from gas stations?
Back in the early 60s a gas station gave a glass for a full tank fillup.
And not for a half tank nor a top off.

Sure do. We had a Sunoco station that used to give out tokens with antique autos on them. I think after filling a collection book with them you could get a free gallon of fuel. I was pretty young at the time but I remember my parents going to the Sunoco gas station. Those tokens always fascinated me.

I kept my brothers BC glasses from marathon they put out , it was a fun comic strip back in the day and remember it, he was 16 years older.

Hockey was big here in the 70's,and one brand station would give you a mug after a certain number of fillups.Like a beer mug though,not a coffee mug.Different teams,so the idea was to collect them all.They were really nice mugs tone brand would clap a pair of plastic/magnet horseshoes on your car.Their gas had that extra,'kick'.Then there was,put a tiger in your tank,and they would hang a little tiger tail on your license plate.Then another advertised,clean the tiger hairs out of your tank,but I don't remember what they passed out.The Sinclair-BP stations would put a little plastic dinosaur on your antenna,but most of the time they would just hand it to the kids in the cars.

I remember my mom collecting S&H Green Stamps and Gold Bond Stamps. She had dozens and dozens of books filled at one time.

How about Atlantic stations,they would give out a red ball for on top of the cars antenna.

Russell's Conoco had glasses, silverware, bars of soap, I don't know what all with a $5 fill up. After a few years they'd toss something through your window for a dollar's worth just to get rid of it.

I can remember going to "Dick's Texaco" with my grandfather, for gas for the lawn mower in a 1972 chevy impala. If my memory serves me right, gas was 27cents a gallon. They used to fill the car, clean the windshield, and check the oil, all for about $5 worth of gas!

I also remember those stuffed tiger tails that Exxon used to give out. You would attach to the gas cap and hang them outside your car. Lol.

Still have and use the first set of wrenches I got with green stamps over 50 years ago.

Remember most of these, but also that change clicker hanging on the attendant's belt and getting three nickels back for the $1.85 of gas.

Then later on Blue Chip stamps. I can remember no other premiums out here except some cars had the red balls on the antenna.

I remember when I was very young 3 attendants coming out. One filled the tank, one checked the oil, and one vacuumed out the floorboard. And maybe gave Mom a dish of some sort. Must have been a very competitive business at the time.

And back then you also had your windshield washed as the attendant was filling your tank.

The Shell stations gave a steak knife, with a fill up, My first year in college, I worked at a Shell station. A pretty brunette, that I had known most of my life, would come in, when I was on night shift, and put in fifty cents or a dollar of regular, a couple times a night, in her 56 Buick 60 plus years later, I'm still filling her gas tank. By the way, we still have a few of the steak knives.
