Compression relief mist

Has anyone seen or came up with something to put over the flywheel side compression relief to keep the gas mist from getting on your leg while hand cranking the older John Deere’s? I’ve tried hanging a glove on it but keeps falling off and still go home smelling like gas.

That's all part of owning an antique tractor!! Smelling like gas and greasy hands. Oh, and don't forget the oil stains on the concrete floor! I really find it amusing that a question like this couldn't be solved by oneself!

Maybe an old radiator hose the appropriate size with a length of bale wire poked through it to provide a couple of wraps around the base of the petcock to hold it in place. The bale wire might even work to hold your glove in place if you find it adequately contains the mist.
Edit: Now seeing your concern of the mess on the floor maybe contain your glove in an old plastic drink bottle with the top cut off. The bottle could also go on the end of my radiator hose suggestion.

I new someone that tried a can the ball of flame when it fired was a little exciting.

Isnt the relief valve screwed in? Cant you turn the valve to blow away from you?

not if it's a straight one! I was thinking the same thing if it was one of the 45Deg ones! OR maybe a short piece of gas line fit over the end! Endless ideas!!

Before I bought my D, I first started it, it blew out a bunch of gas out of the petcocks. Previous owner shut the gas off with the valve for switching from gas to power fuel. I shut the gas off at the valve under the gas tank at the sediment bulb. Very little gas comes out the petcocks that way. But the ball of fire still does, but so far never burnt my leg or jeans.
