Old beatup Oliver 550 sitting in the grass

The guy with the plow I am going to look this afternoonat has an Oliver 550 sitting in the grass.

Never been painted, I am guesing it doesn't run, I will take a photo maybe try and locate a serial number.

Looks to me like it is complete and has potential.

Going a bit off subject but I would like to find the 550 that started out new on the first road west of me during the 1970's. Had a White loader and White 346 plow with it.

Here are the photos I said I would post last week but could not due to a locked memory card when I appeared on the homestead to document it.

The tractor appears original with no modifications.

Sheet metal is all there, left front panel beside the rad may need to be replaced.

Fenders are solid.

One or both rims may need to be replaced as do the tires.

Serial number plate as it should be.

It was very difficult to read the hours but the instrument cluster would clean up nice.

That's a thousand dollars max. No swinging drawbar, no power steering, no remote valve. Rough old basic tractor. Could be made in to a nice tractor, but won't be cheap to do.

For what it’s worth I love my diesel. As far as early utility tractors are concerned it’s the bees knees. Got a fresh start here as the primary snow mover and mower but kinda has become my little garage queen. Need to replace a brake pedal seal but the low gearing and fun shifting pattern makes it hard to keep in the back

I don’t mean to argue but it does look like a Vickers valve on there? Need a pair of hoses. Plenty of good folks sourcing parts for them

Edit to add there are many on here who have been helpful to walking me through. There’s a good series on YouTube on a gentlemen fixing up a gasser real nice

I put my glasses on and looked closer. You're right, it's there. The picture was too small for me to see it the first look.

I bought a Super 55 gas. It was the late Super, so pretty much the same as the early 550. Mine had the engine torn apart. He said it was getting water in the oil. The o rings on the sleeves were leaking. I made a nice little tractor out of that one. I gave $1000 for it. Ended up with over $2500 in to it. I doubt it would bring more than that, but then again, I wouldn't take that for it.

I see folks asking high prices for them, but I just don't see them selling for those prices.

I’m impressed by the fact that the pto shield is still there and both drag links are still perfectly straight.

That's a fairly straight 550, but the factory Vickers remote valve, while still very desirable, is missing the adjustment knob.

The original valves routinely sell for $500+ alone.

I will have to hire a tilt hauler to take it from his farm and drop into a this implement shed I rented.

The Ford 3000 will be in the next bay ready to do any heavy lifting I can not.

Tomorrow after three we will discuss price.

35-0024 serial number.

I can drive one hour in the other direction and buy this running oliver for $4000 or maybe much less.

64-433 is the serial number & 519 is the transmission code. The 550 is a 1958 model. 35-0024 is the spec number. HTH, Kent Gordon
