135 no power to the wheels

Do what?

New User
Looking for some help here on the drivetrain for 135. I backed into the barn and put it in first and it won’t move. It didn’t make a sound didn’t make a jerk didn’t do anything unusual except quit moving. Gears in the transmission or spinning as viewed through the inspection port. Tractor won’t move, even if I lock the differential. It is a multi drive tractor with the two stage clutch. Any idea what’s going on?

You might try removing the right side foot plate and the little side cover with the dipstick. Put a pan under it before you remove the bottom bolt as a few quarts of fluid might come out. Remove cover and look inside for the splines coupler between the transmission output shaft and the pinion shaft. If that comes out of place (or breaks) the transmission can work fine but not drive the axles.

Pics are of my MF 35 X.
NOTE : Coupling that transmits torque from transmission to Differential.
Does the PTO work?
When the CLUTCH plate (picture) failed my MF 35 lost all torque transmission to the Differential. BUT the PTO still had power.

Thanks. I saw a YouTube inside the rear of the tractor and noticed that slip sleeve on the diff input shaft. I wondered if that could be the issue. When I can get back to the farm I'll plan on draining the hydro oil (it's time to change it anyway since it is at least 15 years old) and pulling the lift cover to have a look.

Thanks. Yes the hydraulic system and PTO work fine, just no power to the wheels

Actually do you know if the coupler and cotter pin can be serviced through the dipstick/ inspection port?

correct me any time ..but before lifting the top cover up and off, isn't there a roller between the two arms connected to the lift linkage, that operates the lift control valve?? this must be accessed via the side cover and removed before being knocked out and lost in the transmission workings?

They are talking about removing the cover on the right side of the transmission that has the dipstick in it and the response lever, not the rockshaft cover.

View Coupling that transmits torque from Engine to Differential...Cotter PIN fell out???,Coupling "Sheared???coupling slid forwards????

Can the coupling be serviced through the right port where the dipstick is located?
I had the TOP HYD Cover removed (Replaced HYD PUMP) from my MF 35 six speed NO MULTI POWER....thus I replaced the REAR DIFF coupler.

If I ever again replace the REAR DIFF drive coupler on my MF 35 "NO Multi power",I would follow the below information:

    • Drain Oil
    • Remove LEFT Inspection cover
    • Shift to High Range: Putting the tractor's Hi/Lo range lever into the "High" position shifts internal components out of the way, creating vital clearance to slide the drive shaft forward and disengage the splines.
    • Patience is Required: It is a tight, fiddly job that is mostly done by feel rather than clear sight, but it is completely doable. Ensure you replace the split pin with an identical high-quality pin when reinstalling to prevent it from sliding out of engagement in the future
There are several possibilities, as to what may have failed to cause the Differential NOT to be connected to the OUT PUT SHAFT of the H/L Planetary drive .

Enlarge the below picture and READ, what I have a noted on this picture.

There is a FEMALE spline GEAR on the out put side of the PLANETARY DRIVE, that may have FAILED? This GEAR is not welded to the OUT PUT side of the planetary drive. There has been cases of this GEAR separating form the PLANETARY DRIVE,

There is also a chance, the H/L shifter arm is BENT.

Again.... Enlarge the below picture, and READ what I have a noted on this picture.

I would also, place the range selector in Low RANGE,main Transmission in FIRST GEAR,Jack a REAR Tire / Wheel up off the ground, then try rotating said Tire /Wheel assembly.
