M670 Super starting problem

Have a 1966 M670 Super that wont crank over / cranks over about 1/3 speed. Both scenarios have happened. When it doesn't crank when turning to start position, the amp gauge discharges to 20-25. When it does crank over it is only about 1/4 to 1/3 the speed it is supposed to be and wont start.
Battery tests good. Cleaned battery cables, bypassed safety switch, still have the same problem.
Can use a hand held push button starter switch on the solenoid on starter and will crank and start just fine.
I am assuming I have a bad wire somewhere (switch to solenoid?) or a corroded battery cable inside but, I have juice to starter when using the starter switch.
Anyone else ran into this problem?

I was going to say bad starter until I read farther in your post. Now I'm thinking bad wire.

GB, what's a "molex" connector? Never heard that term, thanks
Molex connectors been used in electronics for years. Basically plastic connector. Get a meter and do some resistance checks,

Came to start the tractor yesterday and it started fine, several times. It must be a bad connection or possibly a bad connection in the solenoid. A corroded wire wouldn't work this way as they either work or don't work.
