What purpose does the lead washers serve on the head studs. They are mashed into obliven so what purpose do they serve- 46chief

Searching for oil leak
Yes it is the cover over the crank and thanks a bunch. I had to ask because my wife took the oil cap off a lawn mower once when it was running and you know what happened there.- 46chief

Searching for oil leak
I have been looking for a oil leak somewhere inside the crankcase and could find it with putting pressure to the system. My questing now is when I get it re-ringed and start it can I run it on idle with the top cover off of the engine without throwing oil all over everything ?- 46chief

Still oil problems in the old model B
I was talking with you guys this week end about my old tractor spraying oil all over the rear of the cylinders and pistons and blowing oil out the exhaust and you suggested pressurising the system and looking for a leak. I have been working on this tractor and had planed to do a complete work over. The last time the tractor ran something in the crankcase ruptured and sprayed oil all over the rear of the pistons and cylinders so much that the piston rings could not wipe it back. My parts manual list them as a set of four but this is for a B BR and BO. so I don't know but I do know that John Deere gets sixty eight bucks a piece for them.- 46chief
