    PTO won t stay engaged

Just so I m clear the retainer has a snap ring on the shaft next to the bearing to keep it from moving? The snap rings that hold the bearing in the housing seem to be in place. Looks like the retainer is the only thing moving on the shaft.

    PTO won t stay engaged

Pulled the pto shaft and the only thing I could find wrong was the bearing retainer was about 1/2" from being seated against the bearing. Everything else appears to be fine. Used a brass punch and drove the retainer against the bearing. Seemed like a nice tight fit. I wondering if it was...

    PTO won t stay engaged

1963 4000 4 cylinder gas 5 speed trans PTO. Will not stay engaged. Tractor is new to me and today while using bush hog any time the mower hit a tough spot PTO would disengage. I was a long way from the house so I used a tarp strap to keep the PTO lever in the engages position. I know, not a...

    4000

Haven t got a manual yet but want to put tractor to work. I see there are 3 reservoir lids for the transmission, the hydraulic lift area and the rear axle. What type of fluid is used in each one? Hydraulic reservoir has a dipstick but how do you check levels in the transmission and rear...

    Why Buy An N

I bought my 640 about 18 months ago for $500. Seller didn’t realize it had a Sherman over and under tranny in it. I did have to put a clutch in it and rebuild the lift cylinder but still a great bargain and much more tractor than my 8N.

    8n gas tank removal

I just replaced my fuel tank. Was a little tough with the FEL on the tractor, but doable. While I had the hood off I decided might as well split it and take care of that sticky clutch.. 4 hours to spilt, replace clutch and related components and put back together. 3 hours to put the...

    Rear wheel weights on a 48 8N

I think I will go ahead and mount the weights on the outside of the wheel. Looks to me the bolts should be 5/8" X 8". Can anyone verify that? I will probably have to order bolts and hope to get the correct ones first time. LOL Thanks for your help.

    Rear wheel weights on a 48 8N

I want to put the weights pictured on my 8N. I know I can put them on the outside of the rim but I am wondering I'd if could put them on the inside of the rim? Photos of weights and my current wheel/rim setup, inside and outside. Also, can someone tell what length bolts I will need to...
