    late 4020 PTO o-ring leakage

For side console new gen syncro tractors there was a service bulletin years ago on adding a check valve in one of the oil line fittings going to the control valve. Unfortunately good ole Deere and Co. no longer supports the link to those old service bulletins  . Maybe someone out there has...

    Oil rings on 1945 A

I ran into this about a year ago on a '42 A. I did NOT install the 3 piece oil rings. I used the one piece oil control ring in the very bottom piston groove. Since I was then one ring short because I didn't install the 3 piece rings, I used the best 2 rings from the old ring set I originally...

    Too fast in reverse

We've got a home made hitch on the front a JD B that's mounted right where the cultivator bracket would go. Everytime I've used it all I can think of is "What if this hitch brakes and the wagon tongue goes through the grille, radiator, fan, ect"........

John Deere 9600 unloading auger question.

I can't remember if the owners manual will tell you or not which solenoid/valves on the valve stack operate the unload auger. Once you get your service manual you'll be able to find it for sure. Once you locate the correct valves on the stack I would first have someone operate the auger while...

    Too fast in reverse

I think the short coming to the 2 cylinder reverse speed was because they didn't have a lot of ways to change the gear ratios within the overall dimensions of the main case. Every 2 cylinder I've ran the reverse is too fast for my liking. Reverse is accomplished by using the 1st forward gear...

    1948 John Deere B Governor

With Cyl no. 1 at TDC the bolts holding the flywheel on should be straight vertical and the counterweight molded into the flywheel should be at 3 o'clock position. Right now the counterweight is at about 1 o'clock. As mentioned the TDC mark is a punch mark that lines up with a little "dash"...

    6320 turbo question

Is it blowing black smoke?? If so then yes it's possible there's insufficient air being delivered. Question is, is it the turbo or a boost leak somewhere. You say you've got a whining noise, I'd look for a boost leak somewhere, blown hose or intake gaskets.

I Need A Pick Me Up After Making A Big Mistake

As a JD technician I'll say this: Any kind of equipment, whether it's a car, tractor, combine, planter, construction equipment ect, anything can go wrong at any time and can make any technician look like a complete moron. I go through and inspect combines, tractors, and planters on a regular...

    John Deere 4430 Tillage ?

My '77 4430 dynoed at about 140. Don't know how long it's been that way. The rear axles and transmission case have been apart at one time because there's silicone on the gaskets. Someday I'd like to get in there with a bore scope and see which differential it has in it. So far this past year...

A clean organized or cluttered up messy shop?

My little shop varies a lot. I prefer a clean and organized shop but it doesn't stay that way for very long. Come spring and fall when we're in the field it becomes a disaster zone. I don't have enough room for what I have so that doesn't help. Slowly getting rid of junk that Grandpa had let...

    1967 3020D - Brake/Steering/Hydraulic Failures

Yes, definitely get the brakes fixed one way or another. What a lot of people are in aware of is even if you never actually use the brake, the discs are still rotating and free floating as you drive the tractor and creating metal to metal contact where the pads are worn down to nothing. The...

    1967 3020D - Brake/Steering/Hydraulic Failures

Was everything in that pail with the screen from the oil or was the pail partially dirty before pulling the screen??? If all that is debris from the hydraulics that's a lot of contamination. Possibly from something that is failing internally. If that's the case the stroke control valve in the...

    3010 trans issue

Thanks, for some reason I thought the smaller tractors used a different size detent. One of the guys at work showed me this update on a 4010 one time. I think he may have also added some washers behind the spring to increase the tension a little more because things were so wore out internally.

PTO Clutch Valve Seals - Late 4020

The o-rings that I've doubled up are R56464 which are inside the AR40572 support housing. Never tried anything like that on the valve itself anywhere.
