3010 trans issue

I recently pulled my 3010 diesel into my shop with plans to rebuild the engine. (Started burning oil). Over the summer I noticed it was hard to find reverse in both speed ranges. All the forward gears seem just fine... I rebuilt the shifter and adjusted the linkages. I say its hard to find like there is not click from the detent. I kind of have to feather the shifter. Are there serviceable detents from the top cover on these? Or should I be looking at somthing else?

There is a spring and plug with a ball or a roller I can’t remember which on the rh side of the transmission I believe it pops into several spots on the internal shift lever you can pull it out and replace it from the outside.

I’m not aware of detents in the levers up top themselves arms might need adjusted to the correct spot

hello,, the detent plug is on the right side of the trans. 1 1/4" socket, the top one of two plugs,, the original detent is a pointed detent that wears a groove in the shifter cam, making the detent FEEL very weak,, soo,, I replace the old pointed detent with the 4440 detent,, T19079 cup & M886T ball,, you may have to change the detent spring also..

Do you replace the shift lever also? Or just the pawl/detent

hello,, I just looked up the detent for the 3010,, and it is the same part # for the 3010,4010,, all the 20 series,, all the 30 series,, WATERLOO,, the 40 series up grade to the ball & cup,, I have changed a number of the 20 & 30 series detents to the ball & cup in the last 50 years.. also Tstoner,, you may need to make repairs on the shift lever assembly, the shift rods & the shift lever on the side of the trans. check to see if the hole for the shift rod, linkage,, is EGG shaped from age & wear..

Thanks, for some reason I thought the smaller tractors used a different size detent. One of the guys at work showed me this update on a 4010 one time. I think he may have also added some washers behind the spring to increase the tension a little more because things were so wore out internally.
