    730 gas miss

I have a 1952 60 that I tractor pull with. One of the first things I did when I purchased it was put petronics Electronics in it. I also put in stainless steel plug wires at that time. It runs great, has never missed a beat since then. That was four years ago. I've also been able to increase the...

Transmission Oil for A and 70

I recently changed all the fluids in my 1952 model 60, which is the descendent of the model A . There are many posts on this forum and some lively discussion as to which fluids are appropriate for your application. Has to do with whether newer formulations are "yellow metal friendly", regarding...

    sealing a gas tank

I also had good luck with Red Kote, available at O'Reilly's. After agitating with a chain, I had to rinse about a dozen times with old gas, about a quart at a time, to get all the gunk out. I poured it out into a white drywall bucket, and it was easy to see the trash that way. I eventually...

    Loading tires

I loaded the 16.9's on my 60 pulling tractor w/ WW fluid. I only added about 350 lbs to avoid having to throw so many weights to get to 7500lbs. I used a submersible pump from Northern Tool in a five gallon bucket, just kept pouring in the fluid as the level in the bucket dropped. I also...

    Pertronix Ignition System

I installed petronix ignition on my '52 60. I didn't realize that there were 2 different distributors used on this model, so I ordered the wrong one initially, and as a result my tractor only fired on one cylinder. Once I realized the error, I got a replacement part and it has worked...

    Choosing a 'cheap' paint

I own a 1958 Ford 1801(industrial 801) that I bought 20 yrs ago, freshly rebuilt and with a fair repaint job. A few weeks ago we had several inches of snow, and while pushing it around, my fan belt broke and I overheated it badly. I then realized that, because the hydraulic pump for my...

    what size rim for 16.9 x 38?

That's a nice 450. I pull against one in our club and he usually beats me. Are those Firestone F&R's your wearing? Mine are Goodyears w/45% bars and pretty worn.

    what size rim for 16.9 x 38?

Thanks. I garnered a 1st in our last pull of the season, I think because I saw something in the track that the 720s I was pulling against overlooked. It's nice when the old faded paint can beat the shiny ones now and again.

    what size rim for 16.9 x 38?

I pull a 1952 JD60 in farm stock classes 8500-11000. I have participated in about a dozen pulls now, and while the motor is as I bought it(stock?) except for electronic ignition, I bought some used 15.5 x38 tires from a friend in our club to try and put the power down better. I have always...

    temperature control on 1952 60

The hardest mine works is at tractor pulls. I can hook in six classes, and unless I restrict the grill till it gets to around 190, the needle hardly moves. I did drive up a pretty steep 2 mile mountain road and got it over 200 once, but then I found the coolant was 4 gallons short.

    temperature control on 1952 60

I tried to check my coolant in my 60 last week, and found the level so low I couldn't draw any up in the tester. I deduced that the plug was leaking, had not been evident parked on the gravel in my shed. So I drained out what remained of the coolant and flushed with a few gallons of water...

    electronic ignition for 1801

Thanks for all the helpful advice. Sounds like even a klutz like me can do this. Anything to keep the old girl working.

    electronic ignition for 1801

I would like to replace the points on my 1957 Ford 1801 with an electronic module. My system is 12volt neg ground. I believe it currently has a resistor in line to the coil. Any advice from someone whose done this before would be appreciated.

Youre right, but even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then.
