    JD A Air Cleaner Color

That's what I was thinking. I just needed to hear it from someone else. OK, one more restoration question. Is the fan blade on this tractor supposed to be green or yellow? I have seen many of them with yellow fan blades. I even saw an official Deere video from 1940 in color that had the fan...

    JD A Air Cleaner Color

Hi, I"m restoring a 1940 A John Deere and have found something unusual in the cleanup that I wanted to ask about. This tractor has been repainted back in the late 70"s. I"ve been stripping all the green paint off and have got most of the repaint off. It still has the original green paint...

    compression!!!

Try adjusting the valves again. If the exhaust valve isn"t adjusted properly, the compression relief doesn"t work properly. If it"s within spec"s, the compression relief has likely broken on the camshaft. You"ll have to split the cases and check it. Some of the Briggs engines have plastic...

    B5R Rods

If you"re in the midwest, you can check with Effingham regrinding in Effingham Illinois. They can re-babbitt the rods and re-grind the crank, along with any other machine work you might need. Last set of rods I had re-babbitted cost $250. They were perfect though. They"re a top quality outfit.

    Deere B RPM's

I checked the adjustment on the carb. rod. It was set at about 1-1/2 holes off. Basically it was in all the way. I re-adjusted it to 1/2 hole and fired it back up. I lost what seemed like 200 rpm from where it was at. It also surged at all rpm's with no load. I adjusted it back to 1-1/2...

    Deere B RPM's

Will the engine idle down? If not, make sure the cotter pin that holds the throttle rod in the carb. comes in from the clutch side, then bend the end around the rear side. If you don't, the cotter pin will bind against the carb. and not let it idle down all the way. I just found that out...

Model A serial number 689927 clutch won't disengage

Are you sure the drum is stopping? If the outer clutch drum is stopped, there should be nothing spinning in the transmission. The gear on the clutch drum drives the 1st reduction gear for the trans. If the outer drum isn't stopping, the discs are definitely stuck to the driver on the crankshaft.

    Deere B RPM's

I have a 46 b that"s running a little low on RPM"s. I"ve adjusted the throttle stop screw on the dash all the way out so that the throttle goes as far back as possible. The engine, carb and mag are all rebuilt and it runs great otherwise. It made 25 hp on the PTO dyno, but it couldn"t hit 540...

massey 101 jr and sr fuel tanks

They are different. The Sr. has a longer fuel tank than the Jr. The frame is longer on a Sr. than a Jr. so the tank is longer too.

    ruff acceleration

Have you adjusted the valves yet? They need regular adjustment. Usually the exhaust valves don"t have enough clearance. It"s not easy since you have to pull the gas tank out. After that, do a compression test and see what you have. Joel

    65 Massey Hydraulics

Do you have a shutoff valve on the LH side of the transmission to shutoff oil flow to the 3ph lift cylinder? Mine has a hose that is about 12" long with a shutoff valve in it. With the valve open, the remote valves work for only about 30 seconds or so. With it closed, the hydraulics work...
