    Using Loctite on new sleeves

How is it done? This is Locktite 640. What do you apply it with and where does it go, on what part of sleeve or block, etc.? Any safety considerations? Will pass info on to mechanic. Couldn't get answers in Archives. Thanks in advance. Angelo

My 1948 8N Engine Blew Up

Many thanks to all who responded. I gave a copy of the answers to the mechanic. The head is off; no damage to it. Can feel one loose piston. Oil pan will be off soon. I feel better about it after you folk's comments and talking to the mechanic. Assuming it's going to be fixed I asked the...

My 1948 8N Engine Blew Up

Sad situatiom. Have had the N for forty years. While mowing got in a bind, pulling--L. rear wheel digging into soft dirt. Had happened other times with no problem. This time, moving enough to get out of hole, engine rattle began. I did get out of the hole and ran just long enough to remove...

Report re my sticking, locking up brakes job.

I'd previously posted re my problem. I'd pulled wheels and drums for a look-see. A thick powdery layer of rust on the linings and rust on the drums surfaces--all had been clean when I put the new shoes on;lining eges camphered and shoes arced to drums; new linings were equal length. Hard to...

Buying a new Rotary Cutter - OT

I have a Befco Cat.1 5ft."Tornado" rotary cutter bought new 17 years ago and used for mowing high weeds. Wt. 550 lb. 11 gauge deck. Use an ORC, stabilizer bars and height stabilizer chains with it. Made in Italy so I had to get some metric wrenches. Pretty rugged mower. In first gear I ran over...

    polorizing

I'll add another no vote. I've replaced my 8N's battery several times in the past 40 years--never polarized and had no problem. Only time I did polarize was when I had the generator overhauled and also replaced the voltage regulator with a new one and instructions somewhere called for it. Angelo

    weight distribution of 8N

Unable to find by googling. In other words, of the bare tractor (total wt. 2410 lbs. no loader, wheel wts. etc.), how much weight rests on the 2 rear tires compared to the 2 front? Just curious. Any website appreciated. Thanks in advance. Angelo

Early 1948 8N Brake Experts Please Help

Re HCooke post. When I took the new brake shoes to the shop to campher the lining edges I also took both drums. They said they "arced" the shoes to the drums--not sure what was meant. But I don't think if drum(s) out of round they wouldn't have let me know. I think the problem is elsewhere. I...

Good N mechanic Sebastopol CA area?

Have had it with dealerships. (If you like horror stories, just ask.) Used to be several small shops this area that worked on and sold Ns and Fergies. All gone. My old N--have had it for over 40 years--still runs but has a few issues. If you're that mechanic or know one, pls. email. Tks. Angelo

Email Replies to My 6 Volt Battery Replacement Post

Thanks. In case you missed my follow up, I lucked into a Deka battery at a good price. Here's what else happened after I put the battery in. Cranked up fine but no oil pressure. Guess had sat around too long, before I got the new battery. Anyway I went through the ritual of removing the oil...
