    Removing brake hub?

Got the shoes on. Man, what is the trick for getting that big spring back on? That was a real bear.

    Removing brake hub?

I guess the drum has to be on for that upper shoe to move. Finally figured that out. I got the shoe kit and i see that they gave me new felt. I wondered about that. But how do you apply the felt?

    Removing brake hub?

The shoes look pretty worn but not oily or greasy. Not to say the springs and inners don't look pretty dirty. I'm going to wait to get my new shoes before taking these off. Here is a novice question for you... when I put on the brakes I see that the bottom shoe pushes out but i don't see any...

    Removing brake hub?

Thanks, I keep mixing up the "hub" with the "drum". I definitly do not want to mess around with the hub. I "gently" knocked the drum off. Sure enough the four screw holes have been filled in with some kind of liquid steel. All that was holding the drum on was the tire nuts. I've ordered new...

    Removing brake hub?

Thanks. Yea, like i said, it's a mystery, at least to me. I get a screw driver and poke down into the screw hole and it almost looks like liquid metal was poured into the holes. There are definitly not screws in there. It sounds like from what you are saying that without the screws there is...

    Removing brake hub?

I would like to remove the brake drum on my 1948 8n and replace the brake shoes and what seemed to be an easy thing to do has become a mystery. Every source I have looked at shows four screws securing the drum only my four screw holes seemed to be filled. What is holding on the drum? This...

    Took the back wheel off.

I have a flat in my left rear tire on my 1948 8n and just took the wheel off to get it fixed (wheel is rusted pretty bad and will be replaced). Never took it off before and I'm just wondering now that it's off what kind of maintenence I can do on the hub?

    No spark in my 8n

Just a follow up and thank you for helping me. It's nice to know this forum is here when 8n disaster strikes as it always seems to... I tried putting new points in my old distributor and felt I had done everything right but still no spark. So I ended up cleaning the points on my new...

    No spark in my 8n

OK, good to know. The distributor is all put together so I'll give it a go tomorrow.

    No spark in my 8n

I was looking online and someone said that when you put the distributor back on you should remember exactly where the rotor was pointing and put it on in the same place. I think i may have lost the mark. Is it important to do that and if so is there any way i can tell where to set the rotor?

    No spark in my 8n

If it was on for half hour or so first check the points for burnt contacts.Clean them if not to bad or replace them and reset the gap, then check for spark again. The points look pretty dark. There is somthing I do not like about this new distributor. It's really, really hard to turn. My old...
