Just thought I'd start a new thread.. 8n pulling tractor.. special hitch ?

There is an antique tractor pull near me every summer. I never see any ford Tractors. I asked about that and they said Fords generally don't pull well, there gearing is too fast. Maybe one with a sherman low gear may pull better.

    Gas, Oil and Carburetor float

FYI, the engine oil capacity is 6 quarts, with a filter change.

2n loader need to change belt

Another option is to use a link style belt, I have read that people have used them when front mounted pump shafts prevent installing regular belts. I have a loader on mine but still a regular belt that's getting old.

Cannot get over the hump with this 8N failing to start the 2nd time

A question for the experts, how long does it take for the ballast resister to cool off and return to normal resistance? Maybe a way to by pass it for restarts?

    Blue Smoke - Thoughts?

Blue smoke on start up on an over head valve engine is valve seals. This coming from my father who was a long time mechanic and hid hundreds of valve jobs in the 60's and 70's. Blue smoke all the time is rings, either stuck from sitting or a worn out engine.

    641 workmaster bogging down

Doesn't the Sherman in low range slow down the pto speed, (I know it does in my 8N). Need to keep mower speed up for a better cut and not just thrashing the grass.

    Would You Trust This Radiator?

I hit a deer many years ago with my old Dodge caravan. Took out radiator and hood and front clip. $75 for new radiator from R*ck auto, and $400 for rest of parts from a junk yard. Radiator was same make as one I pulled from car. Ran that car for years driving 150 miles a day commuting to work.

School me on older John Deere Gators

I have a 1999 turf gator 4x2. It starts and runs like a golf cart. Electric dump box works great. I'm 6,4 tall and the biggest issue is the lack of leg room. By the early 2000's they changed the front fenders ( and added a cup holder) and that improved the leg room but they are still cramped. I...

    Help... Kohler K341

Definitely an after market fuel pump, they are driving off cam lobe. I would suspect that. Those engines were good, were used on every thing up until about 1985. If you need a fuel pump ,use an electric one. Hard to watch fuel flow through a clear filter.

Replacing Finish Mower with a Zero Turn

There's a place in Akron that sells used turf equipment, mostly from golf courses. They may have a commercial out front mower like what was pictured. Most of their equipment has very high hours so I would be careful. Finch turf equipment for JD equipment, or Moffets in Rochester for Jacobson...

    Lost tractor

I heard the navy lost a F18 plan off an aircraft carrier. It was being towed out of the hanger. Plane and tractor went overboard. Anyone know what kind of tractor?. 80 million dollars but no plans for salvage.

    Trailer Tires

I put new tires on my fifth wheel camper a few years ago. I put in a bag of wheel balancing shot in each tire. Supposedly sell balances.

    Bleeding a pipe loader

I had a loader like that on my 8n. Mine had a fill/ level pipe plug part way down one of the side pipes. The top vent is exactly that, just a vent. I think you have way too much oil in it.

Starter just spins....no engagement 1950 8n Front mount

Splitting my 8n two winters ago was a lot easier than I expected and it's been said it can be done in 30 minutes? Question for the others, do you think if he just pulled steering box he could then get an arm and hand in there to feel around and retrieve anything?
