641 Workmaster Radiator Replacement
Used a foreign repop from this site on my '55 850. Repair shop wouldn't consider a recore of the old one due to the tank condition. 5 years now with no problems, but, you have to change/maintain the fluids as recommended. -

What kind of hydrolic oil to use in a lift???
Use something that meets the Ford/New Holland M2C134D specification...can use in all sumps. -

And, if the battery is too dead (i.e. had to jump start the tractor), it won't excite the alternator which, in turn, won't put out any charge. Correct? -

861 loses power and surges after engine warms up
Old, been a while since I did that but it works most of the time. Learned that trick on my "63 Chevy with the 2 barrel Rochester carb. -

Overheating cause?
My experience in stuff that tall has taught me to check the radiator fins for blockage from various plant materials if the temp creeps up. I keep a brush (and the air compressor) handy. -

Stuck toplink
You might also try JB-80 (Justice Bros product) but it's primarily for rust. As Wayne said, they may be galled together. -

Electric chain saw and generator?
Gotta weigh in on the Poulan chainsaws. The new ones are garbage, but, if you can find an old 3000 or 300 series in good shape (or rebuildable), they are great. Don't spin up like a Stihl or a Husky but they have way more torque (overbore design?). Ran my dad's Dayton (made by Poulan) for... -

temp gauge
I often wondered about that. Mine (1955-850) is a pusher but seems to work well. I hadn"t ever seen a pusher configuration before I got the tractor. I assumed it was to keep the radiator warm if running in cold weather. -

860 gas problem
Same problem on my '55 850 was cured by cleaning the sediment bowl and replacing the screen. If it occurs again, clean the tank, lines, etc. again and go from there. -

Homemade brake drum puller worked..
Really nice tool and obviously, effective. But why replace the brakes? There's plenty of metal left on those shoes :^) . -

Request for repair person recomendation
My favorite thing about the old Fords is that a hammer may be a tool and it's not rocket science...they were made to be serviced in the field. I'm still learning a lot just by reading the posts on this site.
