Sidewinder Tire-Drive 5 Foot Rotary Cutter

Wonder if we could find the oldest Sidewinder in use? Mine is Model 66, serial number 32300.

Sidewinder Tire-Drive 5 Foot Rotary Cutter

Hi, I got one of these in my wife’s dowry several years ago; it was her Dad’s and it is kinda junky but it is a real trooper. The removable side plate on the left is missing and I am looking for one if anybody has one they can part with.

    2 six volt batteries

As a Case 430, two six-Volt batteries were connected in series to provide 12 Volts plus greater Amperes for longer crank time. I use one 12 Volt now but I have to remove the hood to change it out.

    4020 JD sleeves stuck

Best to machine them out rather than risk ruining the block. A good engine machine shop will know what to do. You can try filling the block with hot water; once it’s hot, cool the liners some near the bottom then try pulling. The heat will expand the bore and some cooling will shrink the liner...

    Trailer Decking Question

Not an expert but I read there are some exotic woods imported to the US that make the very best trailer floors for heavy-duty use. You might research this if you are interested.

    Mahindra 575 PTO lever

Hi, my brothers and I have inherited this tractor; the PTO lever seems to be messed up. I recall our Dad had this issue once and he learned a fairly simple way to get it back in position. Seems like it could be moved too far and would disengage or bind inside the transmission. Does anyone know...

    Piston Rings in 1950's

Forgot to mention taking lead out of gas. Rolls-Royce built engines for some British military vehicles. I read a paper once written by one of the engineers; they were trying to get the engine to qualify to the military’s standards on the test stand, something like 100 hours at full load. They...

    Piston Rings in 1950's

Machining practices are superior; materials are better; perfect mixture every cycle; better oil all help. Used to be that you might get a new car that was an oil burner but they all typically used a little. Modern emissions and high firing pressures mean they all have to be about perfect to...

Need a new zero turn, huge decision, lots of cash requir

Be careful around ponds and steep places! A gentleman who my Dad knew because they parked their motorhomes in adjacent spots at an annual festival, drowned when he turned his over on the edge of a pond and was trapped underwater. The zero-turn will slide sideways once the rear wheels lose traction.

    Hard Riding Mower

The rear tires will have more traction with less air pressure, up to a point. Too much air pressure makes them rougher. I tried no-flat front tires and it rode so rough I took them off. I have run a Hustler since 2009 with good success; imo they would benefit from either a single front wheel in...

    Sidewinder Rotary Cutter Questions

The sloped side of the tire drives the blade disc; you can reverse the tire/wheel and run the other side if it wears.

    Sidewinder Rotary Cutter Questions

I bought a new tire two years ago; still available I think.

    Case 430 Gasoline: Governor Issue

My Dad bought this old (late 1960s-early 1970s) tractor a couple years before he died; it’s running, etc., but something is wrong with the governor. It will not respond right to the hand throttle; I can get it to speed up but it will not run at a steady speed. When loaded some the speed drops...

Wisconsin VG4D runs perfect until warmed up, then dies.

Did you get this solved? Ignition coil and condenser are possibilities. Sounds temperature-related; look for electrical connections and parts that may lose continuity due to thermal expansion also.

One you don't see every day

Early in my career in the gas pipeline industry, we mowed the plant yard with an offset Farmall 140. Why they bought a new offset tractor to mow with, who knows? It had a Woods belly mower underneath. One day there was hollering from a grassy bank on the west side of the plant yard; the new...
