proper rpm for starting the bush hog?

I used it some this morning and let the clutch off a little quicker instead of holding it in the transition stage. It did seem to go a little smoother. At 900 engine rpm it still drops the engine down for a moment, kinda lugs for a second as it is getting the blades going. I guess thats how its...

proper rpm for starting the bush hog?

Thanks for the reply! here is another question that comes to mind. When you are letting up on the clutch as soon as the pto starts to engauge, do you let off in one smooth motion, or more like go as slowly as possible letting it knock for a couple seconds as the blades start to turn? maybe I am...

proper rpm for starting the bush hog?

I have a Ford 601 and a new Holland 5' bushhog. I know the best pto rpm to cut at is 540. But what engine rpm or pto rpm are most of you setting these older tractors at when you first let off the clutch to get those blades spinning. I am wondering because I have tried both letting the clutch out...

    How to remove overrunning clutch

This tractor doesn't have live pto. It def needs ORC. The first time I tried to remove it I didn't know there was a pin in there. Should be more successful this next time. I think it is leaking from the bearing seal. Would like to go ahead and replace the whole shaft to make sure I get it fixed...

    How to remove overrunning clutch

I need to put a new pto shaft in my ford 601. The gearbox is leaking oil there. The tractor came with an overrunning clutch on it when I got it and I would like to take it off to see what size my pto shaft is. some of the new ones you buy says it converts it to a larger size. would like to have...

ford 601 new temperature guage sender doesn't fit!

ford 601 new temperature guage sender doesn't fit!

After researching this issue I have found where lots of people have ordered a temp gauge where the sender doesn't fit. On one topic someone posted a link to one that (supposedly) fits correctly. I have ordered it and just waiting for it to come in. If it fits I'll post the link to hopefully save...

    Wiring gauges on ford 601

I am installing a new tachometer and temperature gauge on my ford 601. Both gauges have one terminal for an electrical wire. Where will the wire need to attach on my tractor? I put a new wiring harness on a little bit ago but it was just the ignition parts and lights. I have no clue how to wire...

ford 601 new temperature guage sender doesn't fit!

My new temperature gauge for my ford 601 just came in. It looks like the same gauge that is sold many places for this model of tractor but it will not fit. The smaller bolt has to go into the larger one to seal, but the large bolt won't fit the tractor. The small bolt will fit the whole in the...

    which oil to use?

I have a 601 workmaster. The engine is fairly worn on mine, there is some smoking, and it seems a little weak. So I got GTX high mileage it was either 10-40 or 15-40. should hold about 5 quarts I believe. Plus I dont hardly even use my tractor in the winter.

    Help removing stuck temperature sender

I tried shaping the head and using a bolt extractor. Every time the head would just keep getting more messed up. It's like it was soft. I did however successfully drill it out though. Started with a small bit and worked up to 29/64. It seemed like I was getting nowhere with the punch and picks...

What is a drift and lite hammer drive? I thought about drilling it but was afraid it would leave some in there that I couldnt get out.

    Help removing stuck temperature sender

I am trying to put a temperature gauge on my Ford 601. It looks like the old one has been out for years. The problem is that the old sender nut is stuck and rounded over very badly. I can get a small pair of vise grips on it but I don't have any leverage and I can't get it to budge. Any...
