    Craig's list steering wheel $35.00

There is a difference in the 9-2N and 8N. 9N is splined and 8N has half/moon key. Don"t recall how NAAs fit.

    8N no oil pressure

Try taking the oil line loose at the rear right side of the block. This will remove any back pressure on the pump. Remove the spark plugs. Spin her with the starter and it should pick up the oil. If it does you have a little mess to clean up. Better than pulling the pan.

    1949 Ford 8N

To check dist. remove it from the front of engine. Clip the coil back on while holding it in hand. Wire should be on coil. Clip a ground clip onto dist. housing and ground to engine. Turn face of dist with hand and you should have a good spark across points. If not, could be coil, points...

    Steering Problem '47 8N

Could be a loose bearing or piece of metal lodged on one of the gears.

    8N Tune up parts

As a quick fix, try two gaskets on dist. cap. Also, could drill hole in rotor a very little. This should be done on the bench.

    Fan Belt on 9n

A floor jack under the oil pan and a light lift might allow some space if the pivot bushing is worn. Also, put the belt in as far as you can between the axle and pulley. Push the belt down and have someone hit the starter one short blast. This may pull it down in place.

blue smoke smells like burning oil

One possible thing is the rings were installed up side down. Note on packaging shows slight bevel in rings. Can't remember if goes up or down but if incorrect will let oil pass by enough to smoke.

    Running hot

Should have told you, the thermostat has been removed. The blockage seems to be in the block. Radiator fills and drains correctly.

    Running hot

I have just restored an 8N that had been sitting several years. After getting it running for several minutes, suddenly the water belched back out the radiator, no cap on. Typical bad water pump symptom. I put on another water pump, same thing. Tractor was running hot. Opened block drain...

    Steering Bearing Cup

Got it out. Friend said use electric welder and spot about three times, same as removing valve seat, and came out ok. Thanks.

    Steering Bearing Cup

Anyone know the best way to remove the lower bearing seat or cup on an late model 8N steering housing. I've used all my hand skills to no avail.

    Carburetor flooding

Make sure you turn the gas off after running. A leaking carb will fill the intake manifold and flood the valves and drain your gas tank into the oil pan.

    8N connecting rods

"put the pistons back in" - don't know what you did - I assume you put new rings on pistons. It is absolutely necessary to replace the pistons the same way they came out. Usually there are small notches on the rod made with a small file. Thats if it has been rebuilt before. The reason is the...

    Engine tapping on startup

Try other test that are recommended. Then, you could have sleeve no. one slipping when cranked and engine cold. when heats up it snugs up a little and less noise. You can check this by removing spark plug in no. one and crank. Does the sound get louder. If so, coulb be you problem. You can...
