    Also just tried grounding field out with the lights on and voltage does NOT climb. That to me says yes the generator is charging but not putting out enough amps

    This morning I loosened and retightened the fan belt, retightened the generator belt, removed regulator, sanded mounting surfaces again and put it back on, start the tractor with same results. Letting in run for a while it will get around 7 volts. Flip the lights on and it goes down. Left lights...

    I worded that incorrectly I jump the wire at the regulator to polarize the generator. It is still the 6v positive ground system. Wiring is as follows. Negative from starter terminal goes to ammeter. From ammeter to the battery terminal on regulator. F on regulator to f on generator. Gen on...

    I never noticed prior to this when I was looking at pictures online about where to paint and everyone I saw had a recess in it. That's my plan to tape off the block when I do the red. Makes me wonder what happened back in the day. Thanks for all the info guys!

    The tractor serial number is 1289 I had thought about it being a different hood from an earlier tractor. It has the 230 emblems and has had for a while
