Hello everone I got a free te 20 Ferguson tractor yesterday is set up as a volt battery I got a new battery today for it the old own start that he replaced the starting switch. Question is how likely is it that the starter will be bad on it and we re would u get part for this tractor...

Determining if my starter is 6V or 12V

The reviews on amazon for that starter have me a little worried. The bad reviews, anyways. I might order one from YT, although I'm almost tempted to try another vendor. Last time I ordered parts, the gal I spoke with (Shannon I believe) told me if I had specific questions on parts, I should...

Determining if my starter is 6V or 12V

It actually did seem to arc on the inside now that I think about it, but it was primarily from the top. I'm about 70-75 miles northeast of San Antonio. I highly doubt there are any alternator shops nearby. When my radiator was leaking, I bought a replacement from YT, as we don't have any...

    More electrical question - 8N

Do I still need to use the resistor if I switched to an electronic ignition? Regarding the starter, does the top terminal post connect to the starter solenoid switch and then from the other switch post, straight to hot on the battery, since the frame will be connected to ground?

Mounting the electronic ignition on an 8N

Just wondering where everyone mounts their coil on their N tractor. I installed the Pertronix electric ignition as part of my rebuild, but I'm at a loss as to where to mount the coil. I thought about putting it on top of the distributor and securing it with baling wire, but I don't know how...

Determining if my starter is 6V or 12V

How do I find out if my starter is 6V or 12V? My tractor was converted to 12V operation when I got it. Long story short, the original 1941 9N block had serious problems, so I bought a good condition 1949 8N block and a friend helped me reassemble it this past weekend. We tried to get it to turn...

Is my 9N a money pit?

As an update (since I'm finally getting around to closing tabs on my browser and found this) - Turned out my block was bad. Wasted $225 at the machine shop finding out there were big holes/cracks in cylinders 1 and 4, so compression was obviously $#it. The block also had JB Weld, regular...

Is my 9N a money pit?

Oh, and nice looking 3000 btw. Looks like you did a good job restoring it.

Is my 9N a money pit?

True, but I am personally more partial to diesel-powered equipment anyways. The primary selling point on the 9N was the price ($1800), and free delivery (the seller was about 20 miles away), plus she was running. The previous owner stated he owned her for 9 years. I think preventive...

Is my 9N a money pit?

That makes two of us. Their customer service sucks, and their selection sucks even more. Almost ironic for them to be called 'Tractor Supply' Co. I did save the old one, and also got what is presumably the original. I was told by several managers at the train museum that my best bet would be to...

Is my 9N a money pit?

I am actually interested in rebuilding it; it's just a matter of how much I'd actually be putting into it to get it working again. Thankfully, I've picked up some skills along the way by working with diesel service at one of the biggest train museums in the US. But, I don't have the same tools...

What to look for when considering a new tractor

Hello all, I have a 9N that seems to keep having problems that require replacement of parts. Anyways, I originally had my heart set on a Ford 3000, and I'm still interested in obtaining one at some point, maybe earlier than expected (if I end up selling my 9N as it is). With that said...

Is my 9N a money pit?

Hello all, In the few weeks I've had my tractor, I've learned a lot, but I'm concerned she might be a money pit. I've already replaced the radiator, hoses, put in a thermostat that was missing, replaced the alternator, water pump, changed oil, coolant, and hydraulic fluid (with TSC oil that...
