    Hydraulic arms will not lower

Thanks fellows for all the excellent advice, especially the pictures. This has been very helpful. Most of you suggested getting the users manual. Silly me, why did I not think of this before? Anyway, I will get that today and do some reading so that I can be a little more educated. Once...

    Hydraulic arms will not lower

Greetings, I have a Ford 9n tractor. I was using a box blade when all of a sudden the lift arms stopped working. They would not go up or down. I detached the box blade and as I drove to the garage, the arms raised up but will not lower. I am no expert (as you will soon figure out!) but...

    Carburetor flooding

Thanks for the reply. Sorry it has been so long. With a little more mowing, I"m beginning to get the feel for what the tractor can handle. Taking less of a cut has been helpful and not waiting until the grass is so long that I can"t see the kids in the back yard! Yes, I do have an ORC which...

    Carburetor flooding

Thanks for all the advice fellows! I changed all the spark plugs and when it still wouldn't start, I was looking up behind the steering wheel and found a loose wire. Well, I connected it and it started right up! Silly me, I guess I should have checked that first - troubleshooting tip #1 - is...

    Carburetor flooding

Greetings, My 9n tractor is not starting. It is cranking and turning over but not taking. After a while I see gas dripping from the carburetor. This is happening every time I try to start it. Is it flooding? If so, what can I do about this? Thank you for the advice.

    Changing PTO Seal

Being new to this forum, I am not sure exactly how the posting works but I am hoping that all who responded to my post can see this. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you guys for your responses. I decided to go ahead and get a new PTO shaft rather than messing with parts. It just seemed easier...

    Changing PTO Seal

Hey guys, I have a leak at the PTO and so I read a post about changing the seal. It said to put the PTO shaft into a vice, remove the snap ring and tap out the shaft. I have attached two photos of the shaft in the vice. Initially, I used the set up shown in the first photo and after much...

    Transmission fluid leak

Thanks to all of you who responded. You have been very helpful and I think I know what to do now. As always it will be fun to learn something new about fixing this tractor. Since I am not very experienced but eager to learn, I sure do appreciate all the help!

    Transmission fluid leak

Greetings. My 9n is leaking transmission fluid from where the right arm attaches to the tractor (not sure what it is called, but I attached a photo). I removed the one bolt (the smaller one) but the big one just seems to turn and turn without coming out. Does it just pull out? How do I get this...

    Transmission fluid leaks

Thank you for the reply! Do you mind explaining what you mean by pulling the axle off? Is the axle what I called an "arm" in my original post? If so, that is what I am having trouble removing because the bigger of the two bolts just keep turning without going in or out. Does it just pull out?

    Transmission fluid leaks

Thank you for the reply! I am going to work on it some more this weekend.

    Transmission fluid leaks

Thank you for the reply. The messed up groove is probably why the shaft is stuck and won't tap out. I just wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that way or if over time, the wear and tear on the PTO created those "ridges." I guess I could use a dremmel to smooth the "ridges" above the groove...

    Transmission fluid leaks

Greetings. I am new to this forum and the new proud owner of a Ford 9n tractor. I was hesitant at first to purchase something so old but I was assured that these tractors are simple enough to work on and parts are available. Besides, with the wealth of knowledge that I have seen on this...
