    Which JE baler to buy?

Price would be very dependent on area. Out West and South where large tract haying is more common, $5k would probably be a lot. In the North-East region or here in Central/Eastern Canada, $5k for a 535 in good shape would be about right - possibly even a good price depending on condition...

    International B23 bar mower parts

Note that the picture in that link is upside-down: The 'upturned part' actually drops down in practice, to be between the knife and main bar.

What Is The Best GAS Utility Tractor From The 1970’s - In 2026 ???

This thread is really just going to be a lot of personal opinions. But on a similar note to the Oliver 550 mentioned above, the slightly earlier Cockshutts - 540, 550, 560 (the real Cockshutts and not the later rebadged Oliver 550) were also superb tractors - especially considering what else was...

MF 165 paired with new holland 849

O Golly - saw one of my paragraphs above made zero sense - somehow I must have turned my phone on voice recognition mode and it inserted a bunch of random words. Fixed it now.

    International B23 bar mower parts

It sounds right to me. Those backer wear plates are pretty common wear items. And they're one of the few pieces that's universal between most makes of mowers, as the guard spacing and backset is the same for most North American mowers. Any ag dealer, TSC, or tractor supply worth their salt...

MF 165 paired with new holland 849

A neighbour/friend around the corner from our Northern farm ran a few models of chain balers with his Ford 4600. His land was all quite flat, but if yours is also flat, I imagine you'll do OK. My question would be: Do you really want to buy a chain baler? There are definitely folks who like...

    1st cutting update

Is that an IH 990 haybine? In my opinion they were by far the best of all the sickle cut haybine of the era. We've had or used a few JD's and NH's and a Hesston between both farms, and the 990 beats them all. I bought mine for scrap price as a backup for our Southern farm, and it was beat to...

    Measuring hydraulic force

Not quite. Area of the cylinder is pi *r^2 [or (pi * D^2)/4]. Pi * D is circumference, not area.

    Measuring hydraulic force

    Pressure X cylinder area = force. Cylinder area = pi*r^2. For instance, if you're supplying 2000 psi to a 3" cylinder, force = 2000 x pi x 1.5^2 = 14,136 lb = 7 tons

845 New Holland Chain Baler Floor Chain Adjustment

We might be misunderstanding. But I think both of us who replied are assuming/remembering that the take up is extended and pulling far/hard enough that it's bottoming out the spring tension. Shortening the chain a smidge would (we're presuming) let the spring tension come back some and thus have...

845 New Holland Chain Baler Floor Chain Adjustment

What's your hesitation with taking out a link? Quick, super easy, would shorten the chain by 3" or so (can't remember the chain pitch on the chain balers). Once done, you'd be at (or near) the start of your adjustment rather than the end.

    Power Production drop spreader

We still use some drop spreaders (Gandy, New Idea, and Cockshutt) for lime (and occasionally other products). I've never heard of Power Production: I know a lot of companies re-badged either Gandy or New Idea drop spreaders - I wonder if it's one of those. Take a look at them on Google and see...

Questions: wrapping DRY hay (round bales, single cutting, grass w some legumes)

I was going to respond in a longer reply, but Bruce said everything I was going to say. I'm also less than an hour from Bruce so have the same weather here. At our Southern farm, I do it for some rounds I sell to horse folks who don't have a bale barn to store it. I'm always quite happy to do...

    Farm update

A chap on here - @tom upton - would probably be able to tell you all you need to know about combining oats with one of them. I believe he has a few 18's (and several other similar-era PT's) and I know he does oats.

Looking for a Low to Medium Speed Angle Grinder

When you're looking at grinders, what size(s) are you looking at? If your old one was larger (like a 7") any you're looking at new 4"-5" ones, that might explain it: Larger grinders generally run at slower rpm in order to achieve the same surface speed at the wheel rim. How slow are you looking for?
