    Modern Lubrication?

I have been using 10w40 in my B, C, & WD engines since the late '60s. 20w hydraulic in the hydraulic center case on WD. EP 90 in all other liquid oil cases on all of them. And yes, my hydraulics still work on the B & C These tractors are work tractors, not pampered, and I have had no falures...

    Calling DickL...Allis C Manifold

Using a little cutting oil or kerosine will help the tap cut esier and last a lot longer. The burnt surface of a used manfold is pretty tough stuff, it's less forgiving than new iron. But workable.

    Just Finished the Overhaul

I'm with Drawbar419. I run cheap 20w for about 5 hours without any serious work, then change to my good oil after that. Like to get any missed crumbs out soon. If you can make it snort up and down some hills in high gear toward the end of your run in periord, it is as good as a drawbar load...

    CA gas tank

Not having access to webbing at the time I needed it, I cut pieces of heavey inner tube for under the tank and under the hood and it has lasted for years.

    oil tubes on model c

One 1/4" diameter tube went from the oil pump elbow to the bottom of the oil filter bracket. A 1/8" diameter tube went from the oil pump elbow up the rear of the engine and accross the head to an elbow fitting in the side of the head (early tractors), or to a tee fitting in the side of the head...

    AC B Belly Mower

Though not in the St Louis area, give glenssurplus.com a try. This place has an amazing veriety of blades avilable, from push mowers to riders to brush hogs. If you can make a sketch of the blade you have and e-mail or fax to them they can maybe match it. They also have small engine stuff...

    d17 sputters

Might consider gummy, sticking valves. My WD would run fine till a load was put on it. The extra heat from working would expand the valve stems just enough to start erratic missing. The fuel system and ignion were near perfect by the time I found the sticky valves.

    high altitude kit

I built the engine for my WD years ago from used parts from a half dozen engines, whatever seemed sound. The pistons are 4" and were about 3/16 taller from the wrist pin to the top, than the others. I don't know the compression ratio, but compression gauge readings are a consistant 145psi. I've...

    Rust in WD gas tank

I know this goes agaist some people's grain. I cut the line between the sediment bowl and carb and installed one of those METAL in-line gas filters on all my tractors, keeps the fuel problems out of the carb. It is easier to check/blow out the filter than to pull and clean the carb, and no...

allis b tractor convert to 12

I changed my WD over to a one wire GM alternator and 12v system over 25 years ago. (had a wiring fire, seemed like a good time) The 6v starter has not needed service since the conversion and man does it crank! I think they actually last longer at 12v. I converted the contactor stud to a threaded...

    ? on Model B's fuel strainer ?

I'm a firm believer in "the cleaner the tank the better". Any water or debries in that tank will come to haunt you sooner or later. Better to clean the whole system now than to fight it all summer long. It will bite you when it is the most inconvenient time. I use a telescopic magnet and then...

    Question on magneto and plugs?

I was told by an old, seasoned Fairbanks mag rebuilder that to run resistsnce wires or plugs will overload the mag coil and damage it. Military and aircrft use external shielding on mag ignitions. ie metal braid on outside of wires and spark plugs with a steel outer shell, and threaded metal...

    Front hubs on B

The '39 B we bought in '50 had rivoted fronts and the '38 B I have has rivoted fronts. I'm pretty confident of the history of these two tractors and belive them to be original as shipped. The '38 B has only 6" wide rear wheels and long lugs that seat in clips at the bead line of the rear wheel.

    allis plow

I am assuming you have a plow that turns the soil to the right. And that the plow is a 2-12. And we are standing behind the tractor looking forward. The landside is the bar on the plow that rides in the bottom of the furrow and pushes against the wall of the new cut furrow. The straight accross...
