high altitude kit

Has anyone on here ever known of or operated an AC WD which had been overhauled with a "high altitude" kit. When I was a teenager, my dad had his WD over hauled at a local dealership. When this tractor came back, it ran like a dragster. It would pull in third what it would have oulled in second back before it needed the overhaul. This dealership did another WD in like manner and put it on the "dyne". Cranked off 49 hp they said. I'd say this was farfetched except for the fact that Dad's WD seemed to have nearly as much power as the new D17 he'd purchased a year earlier and had as much power as our MF 65 gasser. I'd be interested in hearing someone else's knowledgeable input on this topic. Thanks. Mr. Bob

Maybe the put in a sleeve set for an LP engine. The LP engine used a I think an 8 to 1 compression ratio instead of the 7 or 7.5 that can stock in the gasoline engines.
I would like to find an LP kit or pistons for a G-230 Allis power unit.

I wish you luck in your search. Dad's WD with this kit would pull our disc and drag spike tooth harrow behind every bit the speed that the MF65 would, and it was a good running MF 65. This was in the same soil under similar conditions with the disc and drag weighted and adjusted the same, The D 17 did not have either of them beat by very much. The WD used much less gas than the D17 did and somewhat less than the MF 65. This tractor was very fuel effecient power.

Hello Bob,
I rebuilt a AC 170 with a High alltitude kit it had 8.25 to 1 ,LP, high octane or 4000 ft + pistons. that was a 226 ci engine I am showing a kit for both the 201 and the 226 as both having 4" pistons I don't know if they will interchange but I could call tomorow and check if you are interested.
Thanks Ed

Thank you for your reply. I don't want you to waste your time inquiring as I no longer have, nor am around AC WDs. I was just curious to know if anyone had ever used a WD with this kit and if anyone had put one on a dyne. I would advise anybody rebuilding a WD to look into this. I know from personal experience that this kit makes a WD about one "size" bigger powerwise with little if any increase in fuel consumption.

My old dad had a WC with the "High Altitude" kit, it was a 4 1/8" sleeve set with LP pistons. That old tractor was as strong or a little stronger than our fresh WD 45. Never had it on a dyno, but it was close to 50 hp by the way it ran. I recently built a WC with a 45 crank, 4 1/8 WC pistons, and a small tractor pull cam. With a 45 carb it will dyno about 57 hp.

I built the engine for my WD years ago from used parts from a half dozen engines, whatever seemed sound.
The pistons are 4" and were about 3/16 taller from the wrist pin to the top, than the others. I don't know the compression ratio, but compression gauge readings are a consistant 145psi.
I've been pulling 3-14s in clay ground since '80 with it and managed a short run in loam in 4th gear. Had to try it!!

Later WDs had a taller piston than the earlier ones. About 1/8" taller. I put 175 8.25:1 pistons in mine but used the original WD crank. The 175 pistons are taller but with the cup the compression is the same. Those pistons listed cheaper at the time and I got power crater to boot. If I had dropped in a 45 crank then look out. I have never installed overbore pistons and sleeves but have taken a few apart and run into two that had cracked sleeves so I always stick with standard bore.
