    Last Post and Thank You

My battle with pancreatic cancer will be over in just a few days. I want to to thank everyone for the fellowship and wonderful advice I have received on this site over many years, It is an amazing collection of knowledge that is so freely shared. I'll be waiting for my trusty Farmall C to join...

    Starting a new engine

I am repowering my JD 316 with a new B/S Vangard 18 hp engine. My question is will the amount of "turning over" while waiting for gas to be pumped to the engine, filling the carb, etc. pump enough oil throughout the engine before it starts running? OR, should I crank it some before allowing gas...

Need torque specs for JD 316

I am repowering my 316 with a Vangard from the small engine warehouse. The drive shaft connects to a 6 armed adapter on the end of the flywheel similar to the one on the original Onan. What should these bolts be torqued to? Any other advice for this project? The old engine is out awaiting...

This Day in History Aug. 20

The Sargent Floyd referred to above died of illness not warfare. If you are in Sioux City there is a really well done local museum dedicated to Sgt. Floyd, the importance of the river and the L&C expedition in general. The main display is in a river boat that is totally out of the water...

    JD 316 Help! Rain coming

I was mowing this afternoon with my 316 when it suddenly quit like an instantaneous electrical failure. Fuses OK, good battery, safety switches seem OK. No oil or battery lights, no starter response at all. I have the shop manual and have owned this tractor for many years. Was hoping someone...

10 more chemos to go , and i am digusted,

I have been on chemo for five years (pancreatic cancer). I went in today for an infusion and decided I needed a break and came back home. It grinds on you and it is very frustrating not to be able do the things on the farm that you used to be able to do but you just have to suck it up and do...

    Todays Young Persons ..Remarkable

AAA still has them. Also, when I travel my first stop as I enter a state is at the DOT Welcome Center. You can get a real map and it is often the most recent. Then I'm set to travel the blue highways.

    OT- Question about wheat

On the RFD Evening News they have been talking about the impact of rain and temperature on the wheat crop. They talk about wheat that is (or not) "jointed". What does that mean? TIA-DaveK

    OT- New toilets

A couple of years ago we replaced two toilets. They are fed with unsoftened water so our Indiana hard water has started to leave calcium deposits. Now there is a VERY slow leak from the tank that causes the fill valve to open when the tank gets low enough. Normally a simple flapper valve...

    Electrical circuits

Keep the existing circuit for one of those tools, run new branch circuits for the other two. # 10 is adequate for all of them although the saw may run on a 20A #12 circuit which would save a little money. Check the name plate rating.

    Tractor Auction

Got my mailer for Ted Everett's auction this Friday (Feb 5). He is listing specifically "antique tractors" and says they will sell between 10AM and Noon. Hopefully this will be after the golf carts are sold and the folks who came just to buy one will have left. There are almost 100 carts...

    Liability issues #2 questions

I was an electrical contractor for more than 30 years. I always had workman's comp and liability and carried copies of my proof of insurance with me at all times. I was amazed that in all that time probably less than a dozen customers, including business customers, ever asked for it. Now that...
