    Front Mount Distributor Replacement

I'm replacing my distributor / cap / coil on front mount type system. The replacement did not come with a gasket for the distributor body where it mounts to the engine block. Is this gasket needed? Also, there are two open holes in the distributor, I assume for ventilation. The old unit...

    9N Stalls/Floods on hills

My 9N has always stalled and flooded when slanted to left side on hills. I've always assumed that is the float getting held up on side of chamber. It was never a big problem since I was moving and could change position etc. quickly. However, now it is doing it on almost any downward slope...

    Rebuilt 9N Hydraulics not lifting

The shop didn't have an answer - their Ford specialist is out today. I'll check back on Monday. The bill detail shows 20 Qts. of 80-90 oil. That's $95.80 worth of hydraulic oil!

    Rebuilt 9N Hydraulics not lifting

What I meant was that I could actually phyiscally help it lift the blade on the 3pt hitch and it raised it up all the way. I'm not a Olympic weight lifter - so it's strange that so little extra lift made it rise.

    Rebuilt 9N Hydraulics not lifting

I just had a complete rebuild of the hydraulic pump and piston on my 9N. It was done by a local tractor shop that has done many of these before - so the work should be good. However, first time using it with a 3pt. blade, it won't lift the blade. I'm able to make it lift with just a bit of...

    9N hydraulic rebuild

Thanks for the recommendation. Before buying the pump I thought I should look at the excellent 9N/2N YouTube videos by Jason1PA - so now I'm wondering if I need the pump rebuilt or just the upper cylinder rebuilt. The system lifts OK - but it won't hold even the weight of the draw bar in the...

    9N hydraulic rebuild

Thanks for the advice. I tried the phone number for Fossum and left a message. I also noticed the funeral notice and obituary for Palmer Fossum. Is Fossum Ford still in business?

    9N hydraulic rebuild

I have all the classic symptoms indicating a rebuild of the original 3 pt. system hydraulic pump is needed. I'm not inclined to do this project myself, so my question is - it advisable to just send the tractor to a local shop for the entire project - or do the removal myself and send the pump...

    Fuel problem on hilly operation

Thanks all for your comments. This is a new carb. so if its the float catching on the side - is that an adjustment? From the diagram in my manual, it looks like it is connected with a pin so that's not adjustable is it? Regarding the floats filling - I'd be really surprised (not to mention...

    Fuel problem on hilly operation

My 17N (9N/8N engine)starts on first crank - runs smooth as silk but has a quirky habit of stalling out whenever I'm operating at any slight downhill and sideways angle. The engine sputters - then recovers - then sputters - then recovers - then quits. I really can't tell if it's starved for...

    Starter button won't make connection

OK - well that was a stupid waste of time! Former owner neglected to use a bolt/nut on the battery terminal - so it was sitting loose. I neglected to check that when I bought it. Added the bolt/nut and it's like magic! Starter works again. Sorry to waste your time - thanks for answering anyway.

    Starter button won't make connection

I have a 2N with an 8N engine. So the starter is all on the 2N side.

    Starter button won't make connection

The starter button on my 2N / 8N - 12V won't engage the starter. It acts like it does if the tractor was in gear and you tried to start it. It just does nothing. No click - no whirring - so not the solenoid - I'm assuming. Obviously there's a neutral safety switch - does that go bad - or...

    new carb - flooding

I have a 8N with a new carb. Engine starts and run really smooth but all of a sudeen it's flooding after about 10 - 15 min. of running. It's definily flooded since I'm seeing gas coming out of the air intake pipe. If I let it sit for 10min. or so it starts up again no problem. Is that a bad...

    Fuel leak continued...

Too tight is probably the problem since it is very tight to open and close. So it's probably not closing - seating all the way due for that reason. Thanks!
