I think the way it works is that the top wire on the schematic is the only "hot" wire that will turn on the solenoid. The relay is activated by either of the bottom two wires, each of which has a diode in the circuit. One is obvious and runs directly to the ignition terminal on the switch... -

I found this diagram for the 3930 and I thought it was the same or close for the 4630. On this site, there is another series of posts where a different diagram was posted and it shows different wiring for the 4630. Can't find that diagram but will keep searching. Still have not figured out... -

Thanks for all the replies. Going through them one by one. Added one of my own - changed the oil. I am thinking my problem may have been a slipping fan belt. I was noticing some noise from the alternator and tightening the belt stopped that noise as well. Going to give it a workout to check...- dkocian

I have followed several threads about an 8N overheating. I have had the radiator bored and cleaned, keep radiator full just to top of coils, not above, run 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. TSC RENEW hydraulic fluid
OK. Convinced me. Obviously, I have a paucity of knowledge about this subject. Was going to stick with the Travelers GL-1 sold by TSC but sounds like the Universal product is better? In South Texas so cold weather is really not a factor.- dkocian

Ford 4630 Turbo diesel won't start
Thanks for all the responses. It was like a light dawning. Switch operated solenoid cuts off the fuel and shuts down the tractor. Simple. Will check for current tomorrow. New solenoid, wire, or maybe even a fuse sure will be cheaper than rebuilding the injector pump. Hard to believe it is... -

I am having the same problem you did. Grinder wheel with wire brush is too wimpy to spin the starter. It bogs down. I actually spun it better with a wire brush in my drill but it wouldn't spin it fast enough. The drill press ides sounds interesting. I didn't follow how you did it. A...- dkocian

I would also love to have you describe how you mounted it on a piece of round stock and spun it. I have tried spinning it with mounted wire wheel, wire wheels mounted on drills, etc. and just gave up.- dkocian
