8N runs hot

I have followed several threads about an 8N overheating. I have had the radiator bored and cleaned, keep radiator full just to top of coils, not above, run 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. Water pump appears to be working fine. I can see flow when I remove the radiator cap. thermostat is working fine as far as I can tell. Ran it without thermostat and made no difference. It does not run hot at all up to about half throttle. I can use my bush hog in first gear, at half throttle, all day and it won't overheat. Run the speed up a little bit, and within 2 minutes I have steam coming out of the radiator cap. What am I missing?

Lean air/fuel ration can cause overheating. Also timing not adjusted correctly (too advanced). And, of course, blocked water passages in engine.

robably same as one I have been toying with for a L-o-n-g time! Most likely a block full of rest/calcium/etc. Radiator rodded, new water pump, shroud, 4 # cap, tight fan belt, vinegar flush of system multiple times, tiny bit better, but still overheats with or without thermostat. Can see flow in radiator.. No head gasket leak, verified by cylinder leak down test. Timing dead on. Runs good & strong. Bought new Welch plugs couple months ago with plan to remove, probe, pressure was block, when I get 'round-tuit'.

A loose or old fan belt will cause overheating too, especially at higher RPMs as the fan will slip a bit and not move the amount of air needed to keep it cool.

Verify that the radiator core is not clogged with debris.

Aftermarket radiators with automotive cores are just about worthless for anything but trailer queens as he cores clog with debris in a very short ime when mowing.

Thanks for all the replies. Going through them one by one. Added one of my own - changed the oil. I am thinking my problem may have been a slipping fan belt. I was noticing some noise from the alternator and tightening the belt stopped that noise as well. Going to give it a workout to check things out, but just running around a little yesterday shows it may be fixed.
Now on to the hydraulics. Changed fluid there as well when changing engine oil. Goes up and down, but real slow and seems to hang in one spot. I can drop it and it will then raise all the way up. If I stop the lift halfway, it won't go the rest of the way up..
Appreciate all the input.
