Surprised I haven't seen anyone post about the downside (no pun intended) of parking head down in ditch - that oil will leak into clutch area and then you'll be into a splitting headache. (I'll see myself out).- Dober_paw

Fuel Filter inline or None
Apart from the fact that the N was designed with 3 filters one might ask other questions - whats the physical evidence of requiring the addition of a relatively fine particle filter ? (dirt in bottom of carb float chamber?) Is there water or other goo in the fuel - and is that blocking the...- Dober_paw

Auction find
When the internets are down and the batteries in calculator flat and it’s raining (so backup solar powered calc is also dead) then this comes into play . . . providing I can find a magnifying glass! The tip of the cursor is broken but it is still quite usable - and the slide-out is double sided... -
value of 8n/9n tractors
FWIW - Last year an 8N side mount in small western MO estate sale auction went for about $1000 - maybe 2 bidders. Looked decent condition but didn't see it running.- Dober_paw

I can see that it would certainly work - but - <crud that you can get it pointed at> was my issue. For various reasons I wasn't prepared to start mission creep and opening up other access points and I didn't see that it would be much use up through 2 large drain holes or down the filler. Thanks for the info/advice. Scrolling through the archives it seems that diesel flush would get out more milky goo but wouldn't touch the crud. (technical terms?). So having drained overnight I simply buttoned her up and refilled. Dropping the pump will be a whole different game for another day...- Dober_paw

Thanks! Sorry - Can you expand on 3-Diesel? Presumably pour some in (how much?) then run around/operate a bit (??) then drain diesel&crud and then flush (with what? and how much? and how often?) before refilling with new fluid? If it's relatively quick/simple I'll consider it - just don't...- Dober_paw

Drained my '52 8N transmission today - last done in 2017 and heaven knows when before I acquired her in 1991. It was a rather nasty milky creamy coffee color. Tractor is used for mowing - about 50hr per year. Hydraulics "work" but are not used much and when used they do leak down slowly. So the...- Dober_paw

Exhaust leak at rear exhaust port.
2x what Harry & Dan say - also search the archives with keyword Thermosteel - you'll find lots and lots of info / caveats on manifold repair at #4 - like don't double up on gaskets and do use brass nuts. See also the 75 hints. Never again in lifetime? YMMV. Probably depends on the extent...- Dober_paw
