    4030 transmissions

    If I am not mistaken, the JD 540A log skidder utilized a Dubuque 329ci engine with a Turbo for about 100 hp (which oddly enough could be had with the powershift, we had one) So I suspect all the part exist to make the franken 4030.     4230 vs 4040

    Didn't they have different injection pumps? I seem to recall reading the 4040 pump being harder to turn up. But have seen plenty of people talk about adding about 10% to pump output which would seem to bring it right in line with the 4230.

    4020 vrs 4040 HP

    Ok, this was long ago, but just in case someone is searching the archives... A good comparison is the 4020,4230 and 4040. All had the 404 diesel. If you compare pto hp which is a better indicator of actual engine output, you will find 90 or 94 hp for the 4020 depending on model year as well...

    Which would you prefer, a late model 76 or 77 4430, or the slightly newer naturally aspirated 4240. Figure SGB and quad range for both. Work would include primary tillage with a mold board plow and disk harrow as well as running a baler in the summer time. Maybe they are similar enough that...
