    Freeing up fordson engine

Thankyou. That's good advice. The cylinder head looks nicely finished in the photo. I shall source a company in the UK who specialise in reconditioning and who are familiar with working on the older tractors. Although there are a few task I can do such as disassembly the important stuff can be...

    Freeing up fordson engine

Thankyou for your response. I hadn't considered the clutch in all this and it's a good point. I'm in the UK and parts are readily available. Time and somewhere undercover are more of an issue and increasingly it appears money as a complete overhaul seems on the cards. I'm wondering if anyone...

    Freeing up fordson engine

Ok thanks . I'm curious as to what the 7 course rebuild is exactly but it does look as tho it's the direction I'm going to be taking. I'm already removing more than anticipated and thinking while lift pumps off and filter housing etc may as well clean the tank then hey why not paint it and while...

    Freeing up fordson engine

After removing my rocker cover again and checking the valves I removed the rocker shaft again and despite everything looking clear of rust and corrosion a couple of valves were stuck fully down and didn't spring up at all after removing the shaft. Clearly there are more problems here than I'd...

    Freeing up fordson engine

Ok. Not thought of that but good idea thanks. Unfortunately the back wheels are quite sunk into the ground but I'm guessing I'd need to jack and raise the wheels to be able to rock it so good place to start

    Freeing up fordson engine

Thankyou for your reply. I've had the rocker cover off and the valves seem to be fine no rust whatsoever. I removed the rocker assembly to gain good access to the injectors bolts. The injectors were tight but no rust at all . I was going to try rocking the engine on the crank or flywheel but...

    Freeing up fordson engine

Hi, I was given some great advice on here regarding my frozen fordson engine and today got round to removing the injectors and adding a little atf fluid to each cylinder before putting everything back together again . I was going to leave at least a week and before trying to do anything take...

    Find injector pump

Ok that's a possibility. I can check this out quite easily and I may just change the fuel filter and flush out the tank and lines too and try with fresh diesel. It looked a bit old to me when I was bleeding it. I know it probably wouldn't be why it won't fire but it may help in the long run

    Find injector pump

The problem I have is not knowing how much my late father dismantled. I'm not convinced he would have remo ed or touched the pump at all but l8ke u say I also would have expected more out of the exhaust than I'm getting. I even sprayed some easy start into the air intake as I was told he used it...

    Find injector pump

Ok . Thanks for your reply . It looks straightforward enough so I'll give it a go . I'm not convinced the pump has been off in which case I can't see how the timing is altered but it's a good place to start. I'm not really getting any white smoke either but definitely no firing so fingers crossed.

    Find injector pump

Hi. Hoping someone can advise how i reverse my injection pump 180 degrees. Do I remove the pump completely and turn engine so coupling bolt is below pump shaft and then refit? The flywheel is set at 26 degrees and using the claw bolts I was able to adjust the timing marks perfectly but wouldn't...

    fordson major wont start

Hi, ive recently been trying to start a fordson e1a that is refusing to start and im stuck. I inherited the tractor from my late father who stripped part of the engine after getting water down the exhaust manifold. Trouble is theres no way of knowing what he has and hasnt done . As far as im...

    What to paint

So I'm guessing things like injector pipes would have been sprayed at the factory too. I won't be able to get a show finish but with a good undercoat first at least it will be protected . Whatever I do it will be a light worker too so any nuts and bolts will have signs of tinkering at some point !

    What to paint

Hi, im interested in others ideas of what to paint when restoring a tractor. The tractor in question is a fordson major and I'm thinking items like injector pump, fuel lines , injector pipes etc. After removing several bits and giving them a really good clean up some would look good in this...
