Sorry, I had a brain fart. Your serial number is consistent with 1969 manufacture, not 1968 as stated above. Serial numbers for year 1969 started at approximately 226000 and ended at about 257600. -

850 Temp is getting hot?
It only gets hot when you drive it down the road 1/4 mile? Doesn't get hot just sitting idling? Could be a head gasket leak under load. You might consider re-torqueing the head bolts to spec in the recommended sequence. You can buy a kit to test for combustion gases in the coolant at auto... -

Leaking water temp probe on 850 ?
Gunny, I recall this problem with certain kits that defective. The problem with the kits was that they provided 1/2" ferrules, when 3/8" ferrules were required. This might be your problem as well. -

Where is the Temperature Sending Unit located on a 4600 Ford
Is it a false indication, or is the tractor really getting hot? Keep in mind that you may have a head gasket leak. Symptoms: Gets hot very quickly. Small bubbles in coolant when it gets hot. You can get a test kit for combustion gases in the coolant at auto parts stores. Costs about $40. -
