Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

Everything else powered out of that box works fine, the governor, the hydraulics, the distributor are all working just fine. The tractor runs great.

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

George, I was also wondering if necessary, would it be easier to take the governor housing loose and slip it back. Or is that asking for trouble?

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

This may turn out to be a winter project. Moving the radiator is the only thing that bothers me but I was wondering if that would be necessary. Thanks for the input.

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

I had the nose off a couple years ago to rebuild the power steering. If I have any problems or questions, I'll get back with you. Thanks for your help.

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

I just checked and the fan blade clutch readily slips.

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

Hi George, the tractor does have power steering and I appreciate your thoughts. A little power steering oil migrates out of the power steering pump are so I think I'll get into that while I have it apart. I'm going to follow your suggestion and take the hood off. Love your part of the...

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

The blades are intact but I don't know if they would slip any. They free wheel right now and I never tried to spin them before. What shears on the fan drive in your experience? The Woodruff key or the couplers. I still haven't had the time to tear into this problem. Thanks.

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

Thanks Mike and Russ. Mike, the parts list looks like three splined shafts joined together with couplings. I guess it could be any one of those three or a sheared Woodruff key. I don't see how it could be anything else so I agree with you Russ, looks like driving it a short distance will be...

Fan shaft stopped turning on Model 60

Headed out to bush hog yesterday and power steering stopped working after about 200 yds. The cooling fan blades had stopped turning. Shut the tractor off and spun the blades by hand. Started the tractor and ran it long enough to get back to the house and unhook the bush hog. Haven't turned a...

Long: End Of Antique Tractor Market

I have a 60 JD and a 1972 F-600 that I own because I occasionally need them but mostly because I love tinkering with them. I don't play golf or fish, don't go to casinos, seldom eat out, and don't drink. I know several people who spend more on any one of those activities than I do on my...

    Model 60 Oil Pump

Looks like one or both gaskets item #15 and 27 in the attached parts list are leaking. Can I replace those from the bottom of the tractor without getting into the crankcase and what should I beware of? Thanks for your input.

    differential quill gasket revisited

That's interesting. I followed your 60 conversion to a 4X4. You are way out of my league. Very impressive.

    differential quill gasket revisited

I pulled on the quill with my hands while I hit the ears with a dead blow hammer to get it to rotate and it came right off. Got a little tight in the last inch or so. Took out .100" gasket/shims. Re-seated the quill with just dead blow hammer and used the bolts to even up the gap which...

    1953 50 carb rebuild

I had that problem on my 60 and the main power jets were plugged from corrosion.
