    Governor/throttle set up

Would someone happen to know how to adjust the governor on a 504? After replacing the pinion assembly for the governor my throttle seems off. I move the lever about half way down before the idle picks up. It doesn't seem to open all the way full throttle. Only about 1250 rpm as far as I can...

    504 governor gear timing

Would someone happen to know how to adjust the governor. After replacing the pinion assembly my throttle seems off. I move the lever about half way down before the idle picks up. It doesn't seem to open all the way full throttle. I checked the carb rod with throttle open and it's all the...

    504 governor gear timing

Did 5 laps around the field but my throttle has changed. Maybe with the new governor gear assembly it needs to be adjusted. Not sure as of yet how to do it. The throttle doesn't change until I move the lever about half way down. Then because of that I can't open it up. Only goes about a...

    504 governor gear timing

I got the whole pinion assembly. I looked at the governor but not sure what I was really looking at haha. I looked for loose pieces and to see if it looked like it worked. I already put it all back together, had most of the teeth in the front but a few in the pan. Found some metal in the...

    504 governor gear timing

It just shut off like someone just shut off the key. Really bugs me that I don't know why the gear was stripped of teeth. I hope nothing else is wrong. It turned over fine to find TDC. Nothing seemed loose our was binding up. I pray it starts and runs fine and I never find out lol. I have a...

    504 governor gear timing

Yes, thanks for all the info. That was my 1st concern. Why did it fail. Other then being from 1962. So I checked to make sure the distributor didn't freeze or bind up. Hoping that 1 tooth maybe stress fractured and took the rest out. I was confused on timing marks because the adjustability...

    504 governor gear timing

Thanks. I can't see how it could have changed and not knowing the reason I didn't want to change it. If I have to go back and line it up do I have to pull the cam to adjust it? I don't see bolts for the cam gear. Or maybe see if the crank gear will move out and turn the cam 1 tooth? Thanks

    504 governor gear timing

That's what I did and the cam and crank seemed to be a tooth off. Was hoping maybe someone changed a cam or was trying run advanced... Seeing that it ran great I didn't want to change that part. The confusing part was it was single dot to single dot and the governor side was the double...

C-153 Cam / Crank Timing Marks

This message is a reply to an archived post by gene bender on September 16, 2014 at 17:46:22. The original subject was Re: C153 Cam Crank Timing Marks. This is a really old thread but I am having the same trouble and wondered if you are still in this form. My single dots seem be a tooth off...

    504 governor gear timing

I was afraid of that. I just got it all back together and was waiting for my oil to get get here before trying it. I'm not off of work again until Tuesday. People have been telling me the single dot lines up with the single dot and the double with the double. Every time I bump it around to TDC...

    504 governor gear timing

Something that bugs me... The timing seems to be a tooth off. It ran great tho. That couldn't have changed so any idea or reason for this?

    504 governor gear timing

There is also a little pin that I don't remember. It came with the new gear assembly. I looked in the book and it said governor shaft stop. I'm not sure where that goes. Maybe it goes in the housing part of the governor and that's why I don't remember seeing it.

    504 governor gear timing

Ok, thanks. I haven't cleaned it all up yet. Parts got here pretty quick. I know the timing will be off because the distributor wasn't turning. I never even thought about the governor gear being timed until I opened the new gear and noticed 2 dots. I haven't got it to TDC yet and was...
