    5040 Question

Sounds like the fuel system might be sucking air. Are you sure the seal on the primary fuel filter is OK and seated correctly? Is it tightened correctly? IIRC, you have to hold the top bolt from turning as you tighten the bottom. Just be careful!..... that bottom bowl is glass.

simple thing to check before time-consuming split.... make sure the set-screw and lock nut are tight on the bottom of the lever....easily overlooked.

    D17 Series IV PTO

Harry is right. Don't try welding complete...weld in increments and give it time to cool down. A water-soaked rag would help too. Some PO ran into the same problem on the D17sIV I had, and the welding cooked the o'ring....so it was leaking; not all that bad, but enough to warrant a fix...

snap coupler 3 point wont stay up

Either the valve or internal hose leak or cylinder leakage. Does the transmission/rear-end gain fluid? If so, it would be one of the latter causes. To narrow it down; and if it's possible, raise the arms with tractor running, then hold the arms up with a chain or something. Shut tractor off...

    Okay Allis guys, educate me.

if you opt for the D17 series IV or the 170/175 or 180/185 you'd have low-pressure high-volume hydraulics like most other tractor mfgs, allowing you to run everyone else's "off-brand" equipment (if they let you...lol) add to that; factory 3-point hitch which was optional on the D17sIV and std...

    D-17 Brake Job

They can be challenging to start into the hole. If you have a 5/16 (IIRC) rod or even the shank end of a 5/16 drill, you can align the toggle to the opening in the casting.....then gently move the brake rod end into position and carefully thread it in. Don't cross-thread! If it doesn't...

    D19 front on a D17

IIRC, the only differences in the spindles is that the D19 is longer(higher)...same diameter. If you don"t plan on setting the D17 WFE to its narrowest setting, 1/2" thick gussets up to about 2" wide & maybe 3 - 4" long can be welded from the solid beam to the spindle tube...that's usually where...
