    Starter ID confusion

We'll see what happens. I have ordered a re-man starter from the local NAPA guy. I will keep yo posted when I install it.

    Starter ID confusion

I forgot to mention that my existing starter appears to be a reman. There is an illegible paper label and the original metal tag is missing. So what wore out has described appears to be my situation. Can anyone confirm the original Delco numbers that wore out mentioned?

    Starter ID confusion

I need to replace the complete starter on my Farmall 686 diesel with the D-310 engine. The starter that I have taken off is a Delco Remy 1107871. Clearly marked on the case. The old starter has worked OK until it wore out. But I want to be certain to purchase the correct starter. When I...

Farmall 686 Diesel TA Clutch Powder

Well using the TA makes me wonder about how it works. If I shift to TA and slip the clutch when using the loader. Does that wear on the TA clutch and no wear on the main clutch? When I shift 1 to 2, which clutch am I using? There is only one clutch pedal?

Farmall 686 Diesel TA Clutch Powder

Thanks for your reply. I do slip the clutch a lot but that is in 1st or 2nd doing fine work with loader bucket. I have never used the TA. Rarely use 5th gear.

Farmall 686 Diesel TA Clutch Powder

Thanks for your comment. I will be doing repairs on the starter. So I didn't want to waste my time if the clutch was about to go.

Farmall 686 Diesel TA Clutch Powder

My question is about the Farmall 686 diesel with TA. I suspect my question applies in general to other tractor clutches, but I will talk specifically about my tractor. I removed the starter for a separate problem and I discovered the nose (that houses the starter gear) of the starter is...

    686 diesel engine model

How can I tell what engine I have? I recently bought a Farmall 686 tractor with diesel engine. The owners manual I got with it has conflicting information. One place the former owner wrote "310 engine" and the owners Manual I got refers to "312 engine". The tractor SN is 2450176 U11935 and...

    Farmall 686 brakes

Yes, I thought of drilling the pin out. It would probably work. But "Is it hardened?" Guess I can find out by risking a drill bit.

    Farmall 686 brakes

Hi Dieseltech, Yes, I did exactly that. But the other end of the reaction pin is a slip fit retained by a snap ring. So, it rotates along with the plate. I got a small crowbar hooked under the edge of the cover plate and pried while I tapped with a hammer. But no progress. I didn't mention...

    Farmall 686 brakes

Hello friends, My question is about brakes on a Farmall 686. I purchased this tractor recently and today I tried to adjust the brakes. Right side OK. Remove cover plate. Remove one shim. Re-assemble. Adjust pedal. Easy! Left side the cover plate is frozen to the reaction pin...

    Farmall or IH??

I have purchased a IH 686 diesel direct drive tractor. Or at least I THINK it is an IH. The body medallion is International Harvester. But the model/serial number plate says F686. The SN is U11975. It was new in 1979. I am confused by the "F" in the model number. Does that mean Farmall?
