    knocking noise in transmission

    1947 9N tractor that had "low range" added to transmission. When in 2nd gear, high range, there is a knocking noise that I think has been there as long as I can remember. (This was my fathers first tractor); Lately it seems to have gotten louder and sometimes drops out of gear. Any thoughts...

    distributor coil connection to cap

    tab on bottom of coil that makes contact with stud at top of cap that goes down to rotor, how does this work? Does power travel down this to the rotor? If so, where does it come from?

    what is the purpose of the resister between the starter switch and the distriutor on a Ford 9N and what should the ohm reading be?

    does it matter which side of gasket is "up" ? should the gasket be installed "dry" ? tightening torque ?
