    Ford 3000 Select-o-Speed PTO operation

Hi and thanks to all those that gave advice on this message. I have posted it on the ford forum as suggested. Thanks TraditionalFarmer with Leroy's details. I am in California next week for a wedding & I'll give him a call. Just on this subject, I checked the repair manual and for some reason...

    Ford 3000 Select-o-Speed PTO operation

Hi, I posted this on the generaI YT forum and somebody suggested I try this ford forum. I have a 1970 Ford 3000 with Select-O-Speed Transmission. I have recently purchased a PTO driven Woodland Mills Chipper which is connected to the 3 point linkage and the PTO. Obviously the tractor is stopped...

    Ford 3000 Select-o-Speed PTO operation

Hi, I have a 1970 Ford 3000 with Select-O-Speed Transmission. I have recently purchased a PTO driven Woodland Mills Chipper which is connected to the 3 point linkage and the PTO. Obviously the tractor is stopped but running at high revs when using the chipper. The Ford has no trouble lifting or...

MF 390 PTO not engaging after gulp of air.

Hi, I have found some info on the clutch and the pressure test etc. As you advised I will check that first. I have a feeling your initial response re the "cooked" clutch is probably right. Any air in the line would reduce the pressure and allow the clutch to slip. In hindsight I should have...

MF 390 PTO not engaging after gulp of air.

Thanks again for your support. From your experience is there any way to prove that it is the clutch? Or at least a good possibility as a tractor split is a major & then to find it was not the prob. Just a thought. Cheers Grim

MF 390 PTO not engaging after gulp of air.

Yes the PTO was running a mower (slasher) at the time. I headed back to get oil & it continued mowing for about 200 metres or so. Then I noticed it had stopped. If you engage the PTO from the cab it "slowly" comes up to speed but there is no power in the drive. Thanks for your interest. Grim

MF 390 PTO not engaging after gulp of air.

My MF 390 will not engage the independent PTO (hydraulic PTO clutch). The rear axle/hydraulic oil level was showing low on the stick. I was working backwards on a very steep slope & the power steering locked for 3 sec, 3 times. Guessing pump took a gulp of air due to low oil level. Topped up oil...

    Massey Ferguson 390 transmission/diff clunk.

Thanks Sam, I believe you may be right. I have only just bought it. Easy enough to confirm by disconnecting the break light switch when I get back to the farm. I appreciate your time. Grim

    Massey Ferguson 390 transmission/diff clunk.

Massey Ferguson 390 4wa. (1993). 12 Speed shuttle. The tractor clunks as if it has jumped a cog on the diff or gear box. It does this randomly but normally when under stress either when hard down hill engine breaking or tight up-hill/ downhill turn. Sounds similar to turning the 4WD switch off...

    Removed wrong oil level bolt

Thanks so much for that Info I had visions of removing the rear axle housing or similar. The Ford Board is now on my favourites. Cheers, grim

    Removed wrong oil level bolt

I have a ford 3000 select o speed. I removed the wrong bolt to check the rear axle housing oil level. What ever the bolt was attached to inside the housing has shifted & I can"t get the bolt to screw back in. The bolt is just forward of the oil level bolt & under the drive disconnection lever...
