    Unstyled A questions

Dear Follower: this is only a guess, with you being only at 447 cubes I would guess maybe 70 hp. the hold back will be the bore size of your block and also the stock head. Do all the headwork you want to a stock head, but it wont compare to a heisler. I understand money can be an issue, just...

    john Deere A

48 is a great year because personally I think they have the best gearing set-up along with the best parts availability, especially when it comes to the power blocks. If you"re not planning on stroking it, or at least not anytime soon, get in touch with Heinrichs repair, and he can set you up...

    JDA stroke

Unst. G guy, don"t get me wrong, but those seem fairly low power numbers you"re getting for that kind of set-up. A stock crank A with a worked over heisler and high comp pistons in a 6.125 power block should get you right around 60hp, and with you"re crank I would think that your motor should...

    JDA stroke

Thats a loaded question, it all depends on who you ask...Personally I've had good luck with Merfeld, others have nothing but horror stories, the rest is for you to sort through and decide.

    JDA stroke

True, you do have to grind on the top of the case, as well as knock 2 holes in the back of the case, along with clearancing the cam...but you can't add much stroke to any 2-cyl without doing the above procedures. My point was that with a crank of that size, your camshaft is still thick enough...

    JDA stroke

Who cares? If you're spending the money to stroke a crank, have a set of rods made and go big in the first place and actually have something. 9" with a 3" journal will make a nice running motor that is also pretty reliable, and will go together without any really extreme clearancing work either.

    cam grind for JD A

Berry Cam, Lester Prairie, MN. Tell them what you've got done, what your're looking for as to RPM range, and they'll take care of the rest.

anyone go to osceola, wi pull?

Yeah, I went and had a pretty good time with the exception of gettin the boot for a non-working PTO...guess thats what you get for trying to dyno tune and breaking stuff. Oh well, all in all it wasn"t a bad pull, tractor ran well especially considering I"m adding water to the fuel again :-(...

    Mean 77 on Ebay ??

While true, we know how to pull here in NW WI, you"ve gotta remember that some of those big cube antiques are hitting the same speeds in classes where max rpm is only 30 percent over stock (and they get tached after each run, its not like they're playing with the throttle stop). I"d be willing...

    Mean 77 on Ebay ??

I"ve seen it pull, as well as pulled against it from time to time also. Bear in mind that that number is coming from an engine dyno, its not like its putting all that power through the rear tires. While I don"t personally accept a number quite that high, on an engine dyno with the motor...

    John Deere A puller

Just build it big enough and use 5th, then you won"t need to worry about something in between 2nd and 3rd!

    jd 70 bore

Another option you could look into if you"re really after more cubes without hardblocking, depending on how much you"re a fan of the 70 head, is to swap the block out with a "G" block and head. You can bore a G block out to 6.375 pretty safely and have solid integrity yet, and then if you go...

    Styled A head

You can shave about .125 off of the face of the head, feather back the "eyebrows" around the valves, along with doing some port work to make it flow better, and with all of that done it will wake the tractor up. With that being said, the heisler is the way to go though, just have your wallet...

    G Carb

I agree with the above post, with the motor setup you're running, a stock jet size should be more than adequate, and should in fact be able to considerably over-fuel the motor depending on how far you've got the load needle open. Either the float is set too low, there is something plugged or...

    Looking to buy pulling tractor

Got a '49 JD A that I'd sell. Its set up for div. 3. Dynos 97hp @ stock RPMs, 552 ci, pulls 4500-6500 with current weight brackets, and will pull above that with other weight brackets. Diesel starter, aluminum fronts, way too many extras to list, extensive body work to make it look like a G...
