    175 diesel value

Acquired a 175 with the 248 Perkins diesel. Sheet metal pretty straight and tires ok. Had a nice big hole in the block when I got it. Guy didn"t think oil was all that necessary I guess. Am in the process of putting another engine together. Will be all rebuilt when finished. Any ideas what it...

    5400 tractor stolen

My 5400 JD tractor with 540 loader MFWD with roll bar and canopy roof was stolen from my farm on the night of April 28, Eastern Shore of Maryland. Not sure if it made it out of state or not...police are still investigating...but if anyone in the surrounding area or neighboring states has any...

4020 got a noise in her

Had a 4020 come in yesterday...customer said she had a noise in her. Started it for about 5 seconds and sounded like several sledge hammers rattling around in there... In over 20 years in my shop I don't think I've ever seen an entire piston ( in about 9,000 pieces ) in the oil pan...not even...

    283 MF

Just acquired a 283 MF with a little over 3400 hrs. one owner tractor. 2wd..no loader...new tires. I took this tractor in on trade from one of my customers. He ran it out of oil and burnt out a rod bearing and didn"t want to fix it. Sold him something a little bigger. Am going to repair it soon...

    40 rockshaft control

Had a little 40 come in the other day...Both the 3 pt. levers stuck solid (lift control and draft). Doesn"t look overly complicated but I don"t do many this old and they are way before my time...Just wondering if this is a common occurance in these and what most likely is the problem. I don"t...

    3020 power

Saw something the other day I"d never seen before...Had a 3020 come in that had a noise in the middle and wouldn"t start... starter was growling so I pulled it off to check it when I noticed the flywheel flopping around. Split it in the middle and sure enough...all four bolts and both dowel pins...

    JD 4440

Is it actually running hot, or is the gauge just showing hot...check engine temp with a temp gun to see just how hot it really is. Thermostats or slipping belts or air restriction are possible causes if it IS hot. If not...bad gauge or most likely bad sensor. Take wire off sensor and ground it...

    5400 mfwd

Had a 5400 two wheel drive tractor that came off a golf course. Bought a 5410 mfwd that had a dash fire from the insurance company. Didn"t burn any of the front part of the tractor, or even the engine except for a few hoses. Half a days time later I now have a 5400 mfwd. Really wasn"t much to...

John Deere 4955 won't disengage front wheel drive

Just had a 4650 in with the same problem...solenoid was cracked and was no longer working. Take a test light and make sure you are getting current down to the solenoid to begin with...As someone else stated, the mfwd is hydraulically disengaged...not the other way around. There was an updated...

    Stuck 404

Usually when I have one stuck like that I pull the starter and use one of my angled pry bars directly in the ring gear teeth to get it loose. That is after spraying the PB and checking valves and all...some steady pressure and some back and forth work usually work well...so long as it hasn"t had...

    JD starter wrench

I've got half a dozen in the tool box I've made from the el cheapo double box end 9/16 -1/2. Snug it in the vise...add a little heat...just the right twist and turn...and you just saved yourself several $$

    4020 Powershift any good?

I just had a really nice one come in today...I always did like the powershift models. This one"s worst issue was a froze up park cable and a few oil leaks...guy has had it over 25 years and has never been into the trans. or powershift unit.
